Default Upgrading to i7 *comments appreciated*

Some thoughts:
1) Would not be surprised if there are any errors in my build. Please point them out, if there are any.
2) Trying to keep it sub-$1000 including tax and shipping.
3) Not married to Intel, so I'd be willing to entertain AMD builds of similar performance.
4) I'm guessing 850w might be a little overkill, but I plan on selling the 260's and upgrading to the next series when those come out (possibly in SLI). I'm thinking I might need the extra wattage for that. Correct me if I'm wrong.
6) Thanks in advance for any help!!! Oh, and primary use: Gaming

Components that I already have:
Case
HDD's
Optical Drive
23" Monitor (1920 x 1080)
KB/Mouse
Speakers
1x XFX GTX 260 c216

if you live near a microcenter I would definately get the $200 core i7 from there. Also, while you there, i'd pick up a megahalems instead of your dark knight, IMO it's worth it

Good idea, there's one about 30-40mins away from me. Shaves about $60 bucks off of that newegg order and I get a better cooler AND I can make sure I get a D0 on top of that.

Nice, +rep

I'm just afraid that I might not be able to hold back from getting the other stuff when I get there, haha

Dark Knight CPU cooler

Any video card you want (I think the motherboard only supports Xfire, but there are easy mods that make xfire slots run SLI)

Look at the motherboards features they are amazing, i'd know I have it lol

Faster than the 920 is almost everything despite it not having hyperthreading technology. Also black edition, reports of it running 33c on stock cooler.

If this isn't any cheaper due to the graphics situation, just go with Intel, because most AMD motherboards are Crossfire, not SLI

Damn, those are really good suggestions. Especially that motherboard...wow. But yeah hmm...I guess I could stick with a single gtx 260 for now.

Got any more info handy on moddin that board to run SLI tho? That might seal the deal for me, if it's pretty easy/safe.

I have all my data backed up to an external hd, so re-installing the OS/Programs shouldn't be too big of a deal.

I thought triple Channel = 3 slots. Don't know what the 4th slot is for honestly. If you look at the specs, it is an i7 compatible and triple channel supported board.

not exactly true. you definitely do not need 6 slots. you can get away with 3.
However the maximum ram you can have on this board is limited by the 3 slots rather than 6. I am however at a loss to explain what the 4th slot is for. I personally do not know, but I would hazard that the fourth slot cannot be used?
can anyone confirm this?

4 slots is kind of the standard, I bet the have a template thats already made so it would too costly to change it to 3 or 6 slots.

If you don't mind going ATi the AMD 955/ with a UD5P board would be the way to go.

I think I'm gonna go with the i7...Microcenter has them for 199.99 right now. About 40-50 bucks cheaper than the 955.
