Hey, I would like advice on a build I have been considering. I am trying to build a decent gaming PC. My budget is around €700. I am from Ireland, and I will be purchasing the parts from overclockers.co.uk. This is my first time and this is what I have come up with:
Asus Striker II Extreme nForce 790i Ultra SLi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 LGA775 "Kentsfield" 2.66GHz (1066FSB) - OEM XFX GeForce GTX 260 XT 896MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card Corsair TX 750W ATX SLI Compliant Power Supply (CMPSU-750TXUK) Patriot Viper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600MHz) Low Latency Tri-Channel (PVT36G1600LLK) Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black (No PSU) Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775) I have the rest of the parts ( DVD Drive, SATA HD, Monitor, Keyboard, etc ) which I will be recycling from my old dell) I'm not really sure if all of the parts are compatible and it will work so any confirmation or advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks. |

Though I cannot help much with pricing fo rnay of these items, the Processor and motherboard may be good choices, but I thikn you are waisting money on the DDR3 motherboard. Also, the DDR3 memory you have listed is Trichannel memory for an X58 motherboard running Intel Core i7 processors.
Also, Since I work for a large Vendor for IT products, I must say that these days you will be taking a 50/50 chance on receiving bad memory Modules from Patriot. I stopped offering those products to my customers because of a VERY large % of DOA units. So, Sav eyourself some money, get a 775 board using DDR2, or if you MUST have the DDR3 board, then get a Nice kit of 2x2 1600mhz DDR3 set for Dual channel, as it can handle higher Memory Voltage = Tighter Timings for an overclock vs tri Channel Kits being limited by the QPI setting of the Processor.

Thanks for your reply!
![]() I will take your advice and look for another alternative for the motherboard and memory. I think I'm getting the hang of this now, though I wouldn't have realized the ram would be incompatible. I will look for a cheaper mother board and compatible memory. Thanks!

![]() Also the Corsair 650 watt is more than enough to power this rig and even an SLI rig. The memory I chose is more than enough to get this cpu to 4.0ghz. Here's what I came up with.

yah, the GA-EP45-UD3P for DDR2 Socket 775 processors is Deffinitely a Great Board.
q6600, 6700, q9400 q9550 - all of these processors will overclock nicely on the UD3P because most people with that board can achieve very high FSB without much issues. And remembe, REAL overclockers go with the Cheaper Chip with the Lowest Multi =)

Thanks chavez!
That looks like a very nice build. Yep, the Asus P5Q Pro/Deluxe seem to be a better choice, I will go with the deluxe I guess. I will be getting all of my parts from this site, easier this way. Noise isn't too much of a concern, I use headphones most of the time. That CPU seems to be a better choice as well. I think I may go with this build, looks great and it suits my budget pretty well too. If there is anything else I should know, please do let me know before I invest in this. Thanks for all the help!
