Wow thanks for the fast reply! These forums are great. Yea I've looked at that motherboard before, and I really like it. The only thing that sets me off is the 3 dimms. Would 12 gb of ram provide and difference in performance? Aside from gaming I do a lot of heavy video editing and 3d work.

If you are doing alot of heavy video editing and 3D work on your rig now then how much ram do you ussually use? If it's nearing 100% of say 8gb of ram, then just getting 6gb just wouldn't be enough. If you are only using 4gb and it never goes above 60%, then 6gb of ram would be more than enough. That's just my logic.
BTW, The Rampage II Extreme is currently on open box on Newegg for $255

12 GB of RAM is intense. I'm gonna tell you from my experience, 4 GB is enough for me. For you, since you do a lot of video editing, 6 to 8 GB will be ideal. But it really depends more on the processor. That i7 is going to do you wonders, and will last you 2+ years until you'll need to upgrade. If you want a specific motherboard, look it up. Type in the name of it on google and search for a review on it. I'm not too keen with X58 boards.

There isn't really any need for 12GB of RAM in a home system a the mmoment unless you perform a lot of heavy encodeing work, 6GB would be fine.

Alright thanks for all the help, I'll probably stick with just 6 gb. I've looked up review on the foxconn and they all seem very good. But are some boards easier for beginners to overclock and learn on? Thats sort of the reason the EVGA x58's look so appealing is the lifetime warranty in case I screw up. Also have anyone of you ordered an open box from newegg? That price tag on the open box rampage II is very appealing.

See my thread. I asked if anyone had tried the Open Box Rampage II Extreme and EricOD gave some great advice.

Alright thanks. I saw someone mentioned it will definitely come with the sound card, but do you think an open box will come with all the extras, (io shield/cables)? If so I guess I'll give it a go, and hope to get lucky.

ericod specifically said though that he had bought 5 of them and never gotten the sound card so keep that in mind. It should come with the I/O shield as that is pretty much required...as for the cables probablly not. I would hope so but I wouldn't hold my breath. I'm picking mine up on the 25th.
