Default i7 gaming computer

Hello, i'm building a gaming computer for a friend.
Budget $1000

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...umber=12299766

I'm trying to lower the price without losing performance. Any ideas?

I promise I'm not fanboying, but for a $1000 gaming rig, Ph2 might be a better choice. The difference in performance between i7 and Ph2 in games isn't usually very big, and for the price difference between platforms you may be able to afford a little more GPU horsepower.

I completely understand if he/you have a brand preference, I just wanted to throw the idea of an AMD build out there with that budget.

With your original newegg wishlist, going from a 275 to a 4890 could save you some money and cost you no real performance, except in folding/physx of course.

I do love AMD only when I’m building a budget computer under $800. However if I’m going to spend 1000 dollars I think it’s better to go Intel. Correct me if I’m wrong, after reading about the Intel i7 they are faster then any AMD CPU out there. I think if i can afford the intel i7 it would be the best way to go.

i7 is certainly faster than Ph2, but in games, there really isn't a big performance increase. File converting and video encoding take a huge gain with i7 over Ph2 however.

I completely understand if you'd rather go intel with this build, so I'll leave it at that, but again, a 4890 over the 275 could save you some money.

4890. Great idea its been added. Thank you. I'll consider going AMD. I know there cheaper which is great. But if its true that AMD in games is not that far behind intel i7. I will be making the switch. I just want to read more benchmarks before i do anything. thanks again

Whoaaa, I’m reading around I found that Intel i5 might be coming out in the next month. Now I’m starting to think I should wait. Hmmm..... technology always is changing its so frustrating!

Well the thing is, if you want performance, the i7's are still gonna beat the i5's but one thing you might wanna wait for are ATI's dx11 cards which should be coming out early next month.

Well do you think the i5 will be faster then any AMD, because if it is then the i5 is not that far away from the i7. The i5 will be cheaper so it would help me out in this budget crisis. wow, new ATI dx11 cards coming out too..... Geeze too much stuff is going on in the next month or so. I would think the new ATI cards will be way to expensive. Might as well stick to a dx10 card and upgrade later.
