Classified X58 E759 Dead DIMM Slot?
I have a dead DIMM slot. I bought it off another OCN member who said it was working before he shipped it to me. I'm trying to contact him to get proof of purchase so I can RMA it but he hasn't responded in several days.
I looked it up and apparently if one of the socket pins are bent in the i7 socket, then it can cause malfunctions with the memory slots. Several accounts have had a single bent pin and a dead DIMM slot. Some of those said that if you correct it the DIMM Slot is fine. Problem is, I looked inside my socket and I can't tell if something is bent or not. I used a magnifying glass and a mechanical pencil and felt around with it but I still couldn't tell if something was bent. Not to mention, I don't know which direction the pins are. They seem to be horizontal and not straight up like I thought they were. There is a specific section that looks kinda/sorta bent but I can't be sure and playing around with it hasn't helped. Taking a picture of it doesn't help much either. Any suggestions?

I find that just look at one row at a time and look down the entire row. If a single one sticks out at all that is your bent pin. If you don't see it within the first 3 minutes, it's not there.
Even if the pins are supposed to go a different direction the entire row should be going that direction so you should be able to tell instantly. Other than that, pray that you get ahold of the seller for RMA.

Only way i can help you as a tech, is to see the socket.
Best advice i can give is to check the pins on the dimm slot as well. Those pins have support for the sticks, but there are indeed pins on each side of the slot that could be broke or missing.

Yeah, that is definitly a bent pin. If it can't be fixed by bending it straight to match the row, then an RMA is your only choice and you have to hope that they accept it. Since, it's not completely bricked they probablly will, but you need to be upfront and say it's a bent pin.

Put the bent pin into the tip of a mechanical pencial and very carefully bend it until the pencil lines up with the rows next to it. When it's right you won't be able to pick that pin out from the rest of the row.

are the pins in the classified shorter than normal? The pins in my RIIE are at least 2mm and I can see to bend them.
