i7 920 build.. just need some quick pointers on three main things.
1. Mobo.. I was going for the ASUS P6T Deluxe v2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-365-_-Product Was pretty dead set on the ASUS but this EVGA board has caught my attention also. Any suggestions on this would be helpful! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-048-_-Product 2. Heatsink.. so I have looked and looked and looked.. pretty much what I have seen on air that one of the best 1366 heatsinks available is the Prolimatech Megahalems http://www.frozencpu.com/products/88...AM3.html#blank The only issue with this thing is the amount size/room it takes on the mobo with the ram slots.. or so I hear. comments on that would be useful also -_- 3. I need someone to help with finding me a fan controller! Price isn't an issue and even if you don't own it and you think it would be worth trying would be enough for me. Thanks much! ( It can have temp monitoring or what not doesn't matter just what you think looks like a nice quality product. ) |

P6T and the v2 are great boards, but I had my heart set for the Rampage II GENE when I was considering goign i7.
Wonderful little micro-ATX board that doesn't skimp on features and competes with the big-boys. The Classified is an awesome board, has a huge fanbase here on OCN, and so is the Foxconn Bloodrage, but they're expensive and I've never really used one myself so can't comment much on it. And yeah, pretty much the best of air cooling can be achieved with a TRUE or a Megahalems if it's taken care of properly. Make sure you get a D0 i7 920 as they OC better, IIRC. Also, I saw a great looking controller in the news yesterday, will provide a linky if I find it. ![]() Edit: Lamptron FC-5. Launch TBA. Otherwise the Scythe Kaze or Zalman Z-MFC2 will do well.

The EVGA board does have the potential of 3x SLI for dual slot cards. Load that up with GTX 285's, for example, and you would have a nice rig for folding, if you plan on doing that. For gaming there's not much point of having more than 2 cards, so that would give the ASUS the better bang for your buck. I have heard of 4GHz+ OC using the EVGA, however, I'm not sure of the stability on the ASUS board, so you may see similar results with it; due to some boards, even with the same chipset, having advantages over one another. All in all, I personally would go with the EVGA board.

Yeah from what I can tell both of those motherboards have are quality builds and have all the bells and whistles. I become slightly scared of micro's because of heating issues and the amount of spacing usually. I never checked up on the GENE though, I will browse it over.
As for as my i7 goes -_- I ordered it back in march and had the box sitting on a desk since then.. never really bothered looking at it. - S-spec:SLBCH. No idea for OC capabilities with it. |

Ahh, that's a damper. OC wise, was more the less originally hoping for a stable 4.2 What's the limit on the SLBCH?
Well, in the long run I won't blow a fuse over since our wonderful little 6c gulftown friend should be heading to the 1366 stage soon enough. Mainly why I wanted to focus on a solid mobo.
