Talking 1st Intel Build, i7 gaming/OC

Well, this is going to be my 1st Intel Build, since most of the time I've built AMD's and I am planning on splurging myself.

Here is my i7 Set up so far:

Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188048

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115202

Graphics: 2x http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143149

Memory: 2x http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231277

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119160

HDD 1: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136344

HDD 2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136296

Cooling: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835103056

Just listing the important part's anything else is extra or not that much important to the build.

I have never Over Clocked manually but would like to lol. I am not a newbie at building PC's and Gaming PC's, just new at OCing Manually.

Thanks.

Nice spec but I wouldn't go with that V10. From what I gather around these forums, it isn't worth the price you pay (ineffective cooling, too big, expensive, etc). You should go with Polimatech Megahalems. It's cheaper than a V10 and does a better job at cooling your CPU.

Also if you decide to go with Megahalems, might wanna check the clearance of the RAM. I don't know how tall are those Ripjaws because when you strap a 120x38 fan to a Megahalems, it can get pretty big. lol

For the graphics card, why not just get one. With the new GTX300 series looming so close, I'd rather save the money and spend it on the newer cards. But that's just me though.

Lastly, on that Core i7. You might wanna shop around for a D0 stepping batch B (something like 38xxBxx) as it guarantees better OC at a lower voltage meaning it runs cooler. When you buy from NE, there's no way of knowing which one you're gonna get. Check out jshay's thread on the batch number.

Anyway, good luck with your new build and post some pics once you're done.

hmm I think I'll Water cool it with a simple system a Corsair CWCH50 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=Corsair%20H50

quick question, is the cooling liquid in the system already or do I have to add anything?

most likely you'll have to add the coolant yourself. Just get some distilled water and something to keep the loop clean like hydrx or something. Good luck on the build.

dude, if you want a good overclock get a nice air cooler ( Megahalems) with 2 fans on it.

or a decent watercooling system.

With the corsair cwhc50 you wont be able to overclock your 920 d0 very well as i7's tends to get very hot @ high overclocks.

also, get 6gb tri channel kit. 4x 2gb will be no good for you, in fact you will loose performance by runing dual channel on 4 sticks rather than tri channel on 3 or 6 sticks.

there are plenty of coices. my favorites lately ( best bang/buck ) would be the g.skill trident ( see rig sig) or some of the mushin tri channel ram.

i have not used mushin before. but it will be on my next build as i keep on hearing good things about them.

and last thing is, wait for the new graphics cards to come out, if none of the new ones interest you you can still buy the 9800gtx
and i am sure it will be somewhat cheaper in 2 weeks once ati releases their new cards.

good luck on ur build.

btw I7's rock, i've had mine for 2 and a half weeks and boy oh boy its fast lol

Yes, as others have said, get a triple-channel memory kit and don't get a V10.

you want to build an i7 PC, and put 2 9800GTX+'s in it, and then watercool it?

fail move IMO.

if you absolutely have to stick with intel then go 775, and a better GPU (4890's are cheap now and will only drop in price) or go with AMD and get a good X4 940 or better and again a 4890 or two.

the money you'd spend watercooling could be better used getting better parts, and honestly, the 9800GTX+ is a very very poor move. it's a good card, don't get me wrong, but you could do so much better, especially since it seems like you have a bit of cash to spare, and also since those GPU's would not use the CPU to its full potential.

there's no fail, really. He will learn, like we all learn.

The goal of a graphx card is to show something on the screen for the computer to be usable, which it does great.

He will prolly update the cards later

As for the advices..
Yes, there are way better cards
Yes, go for triple-channel ddr-3
Yes, get a nice heatsink
