Arrow [Project] (56k) So you think your Kung Fu's pretty good huh? UPDATED 9/21

I want to fight your brother; him, against me. Let's Kung Fu!

The Kung Fu Kidd:

ASUS Rampage II GENE
Intel i7 920 - D0
Saphire Radeon HD 4770
mushkin 6gb DDR3 1600
SeaSonic 700W Modular Power Supply
Antec Mini P180 - Black
+ more stuff..

I'm still waiting on my CPU heatsink, a Thermalright IFX-14, from FrozenCPU. I'm hoping it will be here Monday so I can start putting this stuff together.

This build was designed for use in my architecture undergrad studio. It gets pretty hot in there, so I tried to keep the specs focused on low-heat output. Also, grad studio can get fairly loud because by then everyone upgrades from laptops to desktops. That's why I chose the ATI 4770 over other models, and the Thermalright IFX-14 over the Prolimatech Megahalems. The GENE, however, was for me. Sexi, no?
Software I'll be running:
AutoCAD
Revit
Rhinoceros
3ds Max
Sketchup
& V-Ray plugins for rendering
very little gaming will be going on here, at least, that's the plan.

I've never uploaded or posted pictures on Overclock..let's see how well this works.

I was playing ping pong in Ding Dang..

D0!!

No, the photo quality isn't bad, it's just that the butt-kickiness of the heatsink is making your eyes tear up. There there, it's ok.

Ok, photo sucks.

9/21 - CPU and Heatsink Lapping

Two days later, and look what arrived in the mail!

unboxed:

I've never lapped before, so this was interesting.. I bought a kit with my heatsink from FrozenCPU.com. Here's a shot shortly after I started

and here's the finished product:

Heatsink, lapped:

The CPU and HS aren't as smooth as I had hoped they would be. There are still some visible scratches which worries me, but I want to put this thing together already!! I'll polish them up better when I'm done. Other than that, lapping went better than I thought.

It's been a long day so I think I'll wait until tomorrow before I begin throwin stuff together.
