Start with an E2/3/5xxx. They overclock well with minimal effort and you can find em cheap.
Check out Corsair XMS2 @ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145241 for memory. Thats $120 after rebate with 2 big components out of the way.

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...-358-_-Product e8400 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...-037-_-Product great overclocker if thats what you are interested in as well btw. 8800 GT http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...&Tpk=8800%20GT memory http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...-269-_-Product this adds up to around 500 ish. add a case, 500-600. or maybe a 750i maybe http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...-033-_-Product maybe around those. but i think if you get a e8400 plus a 8800 you should be fine for WoW..

I would say you should go for an AM3 build. It will be faster for the money spent and the socket will be around for a long while.

I know very little about AMD, as I have never had one and experimented with it. But I've heard good things about the PII. I'm sure the 640 won't disappoint when playing WoW.

Also, just reread OP, no monitor is needed.

My sig rocks games equal to or greater than WoW...
60+ FPS Guild Wars 58 FPS LotRo 34 FPS Crysis and I feel certain you could build it now for 60% of what I built mine for. However, don't be afraid of AMD... they are making some rockin' gaming equipment.
