Default Can you beat Acer AspireRevo for $200?

My gf's dell is literally falling apart (screen won't stay up, frame is coming apart, etc.).

I shower her the Acer AspireRevo and she loved the size and the way it looks. She currently has a Dell laptop with a dual core in it (not sure if its core 2 or not, but it is a basic model) w/ upgraded 2gb of ram.

Her needs:
1) Internet Surfing
2) Pictures (lots of them) - from digital camera
3) iTunes

She already has a nice 19" Samsung TV that she can use.

Or should I just build one? Keep price in mind and also due keep in mind what she needs. At most, she will play the sims...

The revo is awsome for the price. The ION makes it well worth it

It's not an Ion... its just the Atom. The Ion = dual core (to my knowledge... could be wrong)

It is ION. ION is Atom with nVidia graphics, which DESTROYS the Intel 945 in every category.

Very good system. Extremely hard to beat, if possible at all.

Read some reviews saying it was slow... I don't want it to be slow.. maybe I should piece a system together.

It will be fine. You can price together a better system for about twice the price, but it will also be larger.

For the uses you listed, this little system is fine. Just delete all the bloatware installed, and it will go.

If she doesn't want the portability of a laptop, I think this is the best bet. One would be hard-pressed to build a comparable system, plus I think the Acer case is nicer than what you can typically find for ultra-small form factor machines.

Hell, after I get rid of my current car and buy a new one, I was thinking of building a carputer, but I'll probably end up using one of these rather than building the system from parts, it's so cheap.

No... It's NOT an ION. It is an ION LE. I'm not sure if this is a 9400M anymore and it might be a rebrand on an older part. The reason is the ION LE is a DX9 IGP... there's no reason for a 9400M not to be DX10 so NVIDIA maybe using a older GPU design for it.

Also, Adobe Flash is not GPU accelerated yet... so Hulu and YouTube will be choppy on the single core Atom.

I would NOT get it as a primary system as it is too slow.

ION - DX10 is ION LE. For XP, that is perfect.

It has the Atom 230, avoid it if you want to do anything related to Flash (or wait until GPU Flash comes out, and everything that uses Flash works with it correctly)
