First Time Build
|
I got tired of poor performance on my outdated PC, so I'm upgrading to i7.
__________________The current PC is: AMD Athlon 64 3700+ Asus A8S-X Radeon X1550 Apower 450w PSU SATA 250GB HDD My Planned build is: Absolutely Necessary Parts. Cooler Master HAF 932 Asus P6T Deluxe V2 Intel Core i7 920 D0 Corsair Dominator 6GB Parts that will come later Radeon HD5870 Corsair HX1000 My plan is to buy the necessary, then use my x1550 and 450w psu to get the system running. The Corsair HX1000 will come after the necessary, then the 5870. As for the processor, I'll probably use the stock cooler and only run a mild overclock, since this is going to be my baby. Now for some pictures ![]() It seems my box has a sticker that says "Windows 7 Ready!!". I hadn't seen this on other boxes I've seen. ![]() Here's the mobo in my HAF932. Shouldn't need to take it out since I'll just be putting the processor in and using the stock cooler. ![]() More things to come once I get a few more paychecks. (I can't wait!)

That is going to be one hell of an upgrade for you. (AMC Pacer to Lamborghini, or something along those lines)
__________________Curious - are you planning on Crossfiring 5870's later? Because that HX1000 - while a great PSU - is massive overkill for a single GPU. Even if you wanted a dual Crossfire, you could step down a bit.

Oh, yeah tnok. I was looking at crossfire 4870s, but figured I might as well buy a 5870, so I'm definitely looking at buying another 5870. Who knows, maybe I'll get one for Christmas.

I've looked at the Scythe Mugen 2, which I've decided to never go near, since the install is ridiculous. (Have to take the backplate off the p6t, have to etc etc etc)
__________________I've looked through coolers, and looked through somebody's review of a ton of them on here, but I'm undecided. I'll probably use the stock cooler until it isn't enough for me. Like I said, any suggestions are appreciated though. Oh wow, a user selling the two things I need. http://www.overclock.net/sale/580125...ied-3x2gb.html i7 920 and the RAM. Ridiculously tempting.

Yea the Mugen 2 is very hard to install and uninstall. You have to take the mobo out to take the cooler off.
I would recommend for an i7 either a Prolimatech Megahalems or a Thermalright True. Those coolers would be able to get you to 4.0Ghz. Also perhaps you could get a SSD or a Raptor HDD. Some new HDD's could be good? Is your HDD at the moment SATA1 or SATA2?
