Default Upgrading.

Well, I'm thinking of upgrading my Dell, except that I'm going to replace the motherboard, case and cooler. I have a Q6600 and I'm planning on overclocking it when I get the necessary parts. I have a 550 watt Corsair psu, a 4870 (1 GB) and 8 gigs of ddr2 ram.

I'm thinking of getting:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128359

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129021

Do any of you have any suggestions, and any recommendations on a cpu fan and heatsink?

I'm thinking of:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118003

What should I overclock to with that specific fan and heatsink?

Dell motherboards won't overclock very well. Honestly, upgrading a Dell is a waste of money IMO. Try to sell as much of it as possible and start from scratch if you want a new rig. It's not worth mixing Dell and high-quality aftermarket parts. That 8GB RAM you have, what kind is it? Is it from the Dell?

Hi and welcome to Overclock.net! Your upgrades look very solid, except for your heatsink, I would recommend this.
Also, for your case, I would recommend the HAF 922 or the Lian-li Lancool.

What form factor is your case first..

Dell likes to use proprietary stuff with the power switch and what not.

Missed the case part on your upgrade list

K I'd get the lan cool someone posted above me.

I'm not overclocking with my Dell motherboard, I'm buying a new one. The only parts are are actually from Dell that are in my computer is the motherboard (replacing), cooler (replacing) and hard drive (keeping).

The ram is not from dell. Two sticks are from G Skill and the other two from Corsair. They're the same specs so I don't have any problems with them. I don't plan on overclocking the ram or my videocard.

Edit: Will the cooler fit in the case? And if so what should I overclock to.

You'll love that board.

You should definitely spend the extra $20 or $30 and get the antec 902. It's better looking and has better cable management.

Get a mugen 2 or dark knight cpu cooler, both are good, cheap options. The mugen 2 cools slightly better and is cheaper, but it's HUGE.

Okay well I think I'll get the Antec 902 and the Dark Knight cooler like you guys suggested. I still have until winter so I'll see what's new then. Thanks.

Nice rig. I would upgrade the PSU, Motherboard, and the Case. Like your doing except for the PSU. Good rig. Standard. I would stick with your plan but still get a new PSU. This way you will be singling out parts from "DELL". LOL.

LOL = Laugh Out Loud.

My PSU is from Corsair not Dell:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=corsair%20550

My budget wouldn't fit another power supply anyways, plus I wouldn't want to replace that.

Though could I still crossfire a 4870 or 4890 with my 4870 and overclock with my 550 watt psu?
