Default Help me with my friends 500$ budget

Today me and a friend of mine are planning to make a trip to microcenter to build a little desktop box.

He's wanting a XP 32-bit based system for around 500$, Just a tower, nothing else. He does a lot of dubstep DJing and what not so keep that in mind if that makes a difference on parts or something.

+rep for help

Is he using Serrato or Final scratch to DJ digital files, or is he producing tracks on the computer?

Get a 7200 RPM hard drive unless he already has drives
MOBO with a firewire port -or- an additional firewire card for transferring media around
3 gigs of RAM
A cheap cd/dvd burner

Really basic stuff.

You should have no problem here. Unless he does complicated DSP or runs a ton of effects in tandem I believe most new processors should handle it in stride.

Does he already have a soundcard?

I'd say this, but swap out for a less expensive GPU. I don't know what sort of requirements DJ software might have, but this should be a pretty solid all-purpose build.

Edit - agree with above post.

He won't need more than a $60 GPU if he's just going to web surf and make music.

Build delayed due to procrastination, 420, and authentic tacos from Mexican taco trailers... Thanks for the info so far though, you guys choose the same MoBO and CPU I was thinking about.

Don't waste your time with xp, unless he already has the install disc. If you're buying an os, go with windows 7.
