Default First build, need some feedback

Paycheck just arrived and I'm ready to order the parts for my new system.
I've never built a PC before and I probably couldn't tell RAM from CPU a month ago. So I would really appreciate some feedback on what I've come up with so far. I'll be using the PC for gaming and working with 3DS Max and similar. I won't be overclocking, atleast not anytime soon, so I'm willing to compromise a little bit on the cooling vs noise.

Motherboard: Asus P6T Deluxe V2 (Read about some issues with the northbridge getting really hot when not using the stock cooling on the i7. Will this be a problem for me if I don't plan on overclocking?)
Product Code: 90-MIB7U0-G0EAY00Z

CPU: Intel Core i7 920 + Prolima Tech Megahalems (Still don't know what fan to go with this, any recommendations?)
Product Code: BX80601920 and Megahalems

RAM: 6x 2GB Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600MHz CL8-8-8-24
Product Code: CMD12GX3M6A1600C8

GPU: XFX Radeon HD 5870 1GB (Planning on buying a 2nd card when the prices drop a little)
Product Code: HD-587A-ZNF9

SSD: Intel X25-M Mainstream Solid State Drive 34nm Product Line 80GB
Product Code: SSDSA2MH080G2R5

HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 7200RPM
Product Code: WD1001FALS

PSU: Corsair HX1000W (Is this overkill?)
Product Code: CMPSU-1000HXEU or CMPSU-1000HX (Guessing the EU one is for, well EU?)

Case: Cooler Master ATC S 840 (Getting an extra intake fan at the bottom, thinking Scythe S-FLEX)
Product Code: RC-840-KKN1-GP and S-FLEX SFF21E

DVD: Samsung DVD±RW burner (This is the part I know the least about, all I know is that Blu-ray is a bit too expensive for my taste still)
Product Code: SH-S223B/RSMN

Apologies for no links, but they would be in danish. Will add them if needed.

looks nice but i'd downscale with the PSU, a HX-850 is more than enough for an i7 and 2 5870's and put the leftovers into another 1tb HDD. Also do you want silent fans or high performance fans?

EDIT don't get 12gb of ram, its a waste of money right now unless you use engineering apps ect. so just stick with 6gb. Good luck to you sir

I remember a time when I thought I wouldn't overclock a new system. I wish I didn't though.
Just wait till you give it a try, I guarantee you will be hooked.

Anyways, system looks good. the hx1000 could be overkill, but it could come in handy if you decide to add a few more 5870's. Also as said before you should be fine with 6gb's of ram.

Have fun building your first computer!

For the fans, I want a good mix of performance/silence. It's not a deal breaker if it's not the most silent or the most powerful.

As for the PSU, if an 850W can pull two 5870s and the rest without a problem then I'll go for that.

The reason I went for 12GB is that I'll be rendering a lot and as far as I could tell from browsing around a bit, the RAM and CPU is what boosts rendering speed the most.

Thanks for the replies so far =)

the 850 will definitely pull two 5870's so no worries there, and if you can afford and need the 12GB's of ram then go for it. Good luck!

Okay, been reading some more on the RAM thing. Seems that the amount won't do as much as I thought it would. So I can save a little there.

Looking at two different 3x 2GB, Corsair Dominator and Corsair Dominator GT. The only difference is the MHz, one is 1600 and the other is 1866, both CL7. Which one should I go for?

faster ram could give you a better overclock, but if you really have no intention of overclocking get the cheaper stuff.
