Well, I know it's a waste, but it's the only OS I have at the moment. I'll get 64-bit Windows 7 Pro eventually (I need XP Mode for some software), but until then, I'm stuck with half my RAM and an 8800GTS.

100% agree with this statement. 32bit XP will do no justice to that system and it, in my eyes, is the factor that makes it seem like "the worst i7 system in the world". You actually have a pretty good system there, once a GPU upgrade comes you'll be set.

But for now, go grab a copy of the Win7 x64 RC and let that baby shine.

The thing with the red buttons? My Steelseries Fang? I play Borderlands with the guy who sold me the parts, and he has one of the Merc gaming keyboards. The Fang is actually superior. Review to come.

I don't know why so many people (all of two!) have complained about it. They probably got burned by the Belkins and Logitechs. The Fang avoids their mistakes.

I'm actually amused about the whole thing. I legitimately believe that nobody else in the world has an i7 being held back so far by its video card and operating system, and that tickles my funny bone. I could put Windows 2000 and an 8500 in it, but that would be artificially bad. This is seriously the best I can do at the moment.

I might grab a 260 for it until I get a DX11 card, and I'm looking at Windows 7, but right now, my i7 system is the fat kid who gets picked last for dodgeball.

less than 4GB ram used? Thats your fault - Download windows 7 x64 and wait till you buy a license to activate it.. You can wait 30 days without putting in a code

the video card? SO WHAT, its better than integrated and can still game


You've got a good setup, and the newest technology. Just be glad you didn't get stuck with a Phenom 9950 or some crap cpu like that lol (not that its amd but that its an expensive chip that can't even hit 3.6 ghz lol)

I'm quite aware of the capabilities of an 8800GTS. I've been using it for a year, and I know how it performs. Trust me when I say that it's holding my system back. I know that still using 32 bit XP is 'my fault', in that I haven't paid to upgrade it yet. I'm working on it. Give me time.

I wanted to give people a laugh about great hardware paired up with old accessories, but I guess I came across as complaining. My bad. Let me start again a bit:

I have a great CPU that is a known overclocker.

I have a great motherboard that is known to get the CPU to good overclocks.

I have great RAM, and I even have plans to use all of it.

My GPU is aging, and although it can still play every game out there, it can't smoothly run new games at even Medium settings without turning the resolution down a bit. My plan is (and always has been) to upgrade it for Christmas.

My OS, dear to my heart though it is, is holding me back, and I have plans in place to upgrade it.

I see it as humourous that circumstance allowed me to upgrade my CPU a full year ahead of schedule, but my GPU, which I saw as a higher priority, will remain the same for a month or two. Your mileage may very depending on your sense of humour.
