I think you are right. It's throwing money away. With a budget of $2,000-$2,250 I can still configure a kick-a$$ system.

I will change the title of the thread from ULTIMATE BUILD to RELATIVELY-ULTIMATE BUILD

For the number of features you get and the OC potential there is no better board than the EVGA x58 Classified. The bloodrage may OC as well, but there are just so many features the evga board has that it does not. (like tri-sli with physx, pcie disable jumpers, and 6 ram slots just for examples. i could keep going)

I built my rig for about $2500.

wait till Fermi comes out and you can blow mine away with the same price range.

If it's classified then how do I get more info on the x58?

I am hoping that was a bad joke. :-P

This.

or if you are feeling really extreme and have a bench type case this.

with the second one you can run 4 cards in SLI. (think 4 gtx285's destroying what 2 295's can do)

When I click on that link I get a message from Newegg that reads "Access Denied", what the hell man? Is this mobo a matter of national security?

Ok, fine, I'm joking.

Parts:
920 DO
Evga Classified
12GBs of G-skill Trident
Corsair 800D or have one of our resident modders build you a sick custom case.
Enermax 1050+ watt psu
3 x 5870 or (if you can wait) 3 x fermi based cards
2 x 128 gb ssd's in raid 0
And a kickass wc set up.
What does D0 mean for the i7 920? Is that a CPU revision and, hence, a better CPU than the non D0?

I think you'd be better off getting some triple channel memory for i7 boards. Examples here.

Also, how about using a solid state drive for booting windows / running apps and the Caviar Black for storage?

I'm new to this too so someone please correct me if my post is wrong.

The noctua cooler is inferior to most of the other large tower coolers out there. Grab a Prolimatech megahalems, megashadow, or a TRUE. Also the x58 platform uses triple channel ram so you should grab a 3 x 2GB kit.

Yes, they typically can reach higher clocks at lower voltages that the original C0 steppings. If you buy from newegg, chances are that you'll get a D0. If you go to a B&M store you'll wanna look at the box. It should say "S spec: SLEBJ". Microcenter has the 920 for $200, so if you have one even remotely close to you, I recommend that you take advantage of it.
