Just a thought.

You might be right there. Although, i've heard a lot of mixed views on Raid. I'm not 100% convinced.

I thought the write speeds still kicked ass though?

Last time I checked there were SLC and MLC drives, MLC having slow write times (slower than traditional drives), SLC being faster but more expensive.

A 16 gig SLC drive is about $150 right now

So MAYBE as a system drive it would work (without a pagefile), but that's crazy expensive.

An MLC drive should be fine for a storage disk, since that's mainly retrieved from rather than written to.

My apologies, I didn't read the posts after your OP thoroughly enough.

I've created a basket in Scan.co.uk that I've attatched as an image. I think it would be a pretty good setup in the performance range you are looking for (though for that kind of money, an I7 rig could also be possible.)

You will need to find some decent fans to go on the Megahalem and you might want to take off the 1TB drive if your going to use your 500gb that you already have. The motherboard supports both Crossfire and SLi and I'm confident the GPU is the best bang for buck under the 5850 series.

Hope it is of some help for you.

The i5's do overclockwell, almost as well as the i7 CPU's, you should be able to hit 4GHz no problem with 2 nice fans in a Push-Pull system, maybe San Ace fans.

Great as far as I know, there's a whole thread dedicated to socket 1156.

I've had a little look at the i7 option, its a tiny bit dearer however I do think the exta money is well spent. Again all your requests are matched .
