Hi OCN i'm really confused what to build
.I have a weird scenario right now. My usage of my computer really varies from day to day. I do a lot of web work, used to do a lot of gaming and normal computer stuff. My old rig was; Q6600 @ 3.8 Asus P5K-Premium 4GB Ram @ 1200Mhz 8800GT which in all honesty was good enough for me - However i'm one of those types of people who love too have all the pretty graphics up. Now, i'm currently using my laptop [Sig rig] and in all honesty it does what i need it too - BUT do remember i'm not gaming or hosting severs like i used too either. I'm running a 22inch and 17 inch of this. It's more like my desktop replacement. I don't want to down grade [especialy from my laptop rig] I want Quad core, but not sure if to go for a Phemon 2 or a 775Quad or I5? I would like the I5 as it allows me to have crossfire and SLI [assuming i get a high end board] So i can change my mind later on And here's my other problem, if i do build a PC i dont want cheep parts. I want a high end Mobo for futurebility. Help Me OCN.

I mean if you are building the system with crossfire or SLI as a possibility, you are stuck with a high end mobo and the i5 or i7. And that's not really going to future proof you besides allowing you a wider selection of GPUs.
__________________If you aren't strictly looking for both ati and Nvidia to be a candidate, why not buy an AM3 board with a Phenom II quad and DDR3 1600 and choose a GPU vendor. I'm a big fan of getting something that's going to work great and cost less. So I have my sig rig and it plays everything I play high or maxed at my native 1680, and does everything I need it to very fast. Again, I don't run SLI or Crossfire, so it wasn't a big factor for me. My 8800gt is still kicking and the 4890 I get next (unless the 8800gt lasts me longer than I expect in which case 5000 series) should last me a long time. I'm also not someone that needs to have the most power possible. If that id your prerogative, you should go i7, but you will pay more for it.

Cheers. I think any GPU vendor would be good tbh, i dont care about 1% performance increase for an extra £20.
Although, after thinking about it for a little longer i might just got Nvidia [Nvidia fan boy ] Whats better for Performance:Money on the CPU front? - Because i had the Q6600 which is one the slower quads hower it more or less forfill my needs.

Depends what you are using it for.
__________________While games are becoming more demanding for both CPU and GPU, I think that the GPU is the single most important piece, unless the CPU is bottlenecking the GPU of course. I haven't run into any CPU problems with my 2.8ghz 3-core and can easily OC it to 3.5 if I need to. As well, my 8800gt is showing it's age, but still handles everything I play with ease. FEAR, TF2, Assassins creed, Fallout 3, Dragon Age: Origins, Half Life II, Deadspace I just held off my intention of upgrading to a 4890 because I just don't need it.

I think i might go for a fast CPU and a slightly slower GPU [although powerfull] I might settle for a 260, as these quite a bit faster than the 8800.

first things first.. to get an idea of what you want we need a budget. How much are you willing to spend?

If you are in the 260 realm, get the core 216 - or just get the 4890.

I think you need to look at something similar to my sig rig lol
AMD Tri Core 4770, Beast of a video card, 4850 equivalent (yet energy efficient) 4gb ram Speedy Hard Drive Just buy something like my sig :P

On the hard drive front, i think that was the slowest thing in my old PC i had a raptor 10K RPM. I think i would buy an SSD. I felt my raptor was always slowish. Well, compaired to the rest of the system.

SSDs are overpriced right now. Plus they have slow write speeds.
