I'd posted a few days ago asking if a lappy my cousin gave me was worth fixing up for my niece...from the looks of what I've seen online--it isn't.
__________________I just ordered my Megahelms today and told my girl ... before she could explode I told her I was already looking into a cheap build for my niece ... it worked. So. Here I am. Things I have : 1 P4 cpu @ 2.8 GHz <--This is questionable as is it's very old 2 GB generic (but brand new) "stand by" RAM @ 800MHz 6-6-6-18 92mm Vendetta after Mega arrives 1 Tube OCZ Freeze 1 230w Dell psu <--Little connectors and questionable quality also 1 IDE optical drive 1 IDE 80GB hard drive 1 Gigabyte IDE cable with only one connector so one of the above IDE's is S.O.O.L. 1 6-foot tall girlfriend that's extremely hot but mad 1 pack of smokes So, I figure run the P4 til it dies then get a new E5200. Buy a cheap case with/and psu.... Get a mobo with onboard then giver her my 9500GT after I grab a 5750 or 5770. I'd prefer a Gigabyte board as I'm familiar with the bios and plan to give it a friendly oc. Prefer new stuff for the warranty. Here's what Ive got down: EP43 UD3L 80 bucks. Tornado Case 40 bucks. Has shiny things. Corsair 400w psu 50 bucks. Debating whether or not to just get the E5200. What do you think.

AMD is by far a cheaper build unless u got some crazy pricing.
Explain the reasons for e5200. Also note that amd boards have killer on board.

In that case, get a 785G chipset (AMD) or a G** chipset for Intel, as it's integrated graphics, which will save costs by a fair amount.
2GB will probably be fine to cut more costs. Good luck

So are the megahalems for you or your niece? I think the stock cooler will be adequate for her unless she's an overclocker. Also I lol'd at the angry girlfriend in your parts list

onboard video suxs sooooo much...
get a budget video card like the 9600gso which is probably the best value. it plays need for speed shift very well. gets hot though needs good ventilation. i think i got it for $60 after MIR. dont recommend AMD especially for the low end ones. they lag soo much. experienced like 4 computers with them and they seem slower then my P4...
