Glad I found this thread and hoping maybe you guys can help.
My system (BIOS & Gigabyte's OC'ing tool are reporting my CPU temp to be around 40*C which is fine as its the middle of Australian summer and so I'd expect it to be somewhere around there. Using TAT or CoreTemp however I'm getting reported temps of around 70*C. These two values are HUGELY different and if TAT is correct (my system is not at all OC'd at the moment although I wanted to but am not going to until I sort this heat issue) then I am running at the high end of the recommended safe for an E6400! If the BIOS is more correct however then I have loads of spare that I can fluctuate between. I'm really not too sure what to do- I've removed the heat sink (Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX) and thermal paste (Artic Silver 5) and re-applied and re-seated the heat sink and still getting these values. I'm totally confused as a 30*C difference is totally unrealistic and something is really wrong. Please help

Thumper-> You have a e6700 as I...something I have noted...
With my cpu set @ 3.6ghz and a vcore in BIOS of 1.47v...I see results similar to the ones posted, in relation to there being little to no difference between my PC Probe temps and TAT...3-5c typically. However, if we are talking about 3.8ghz+ I must use a vcore of at least 1.55v, my highest recorded stable clock is 3.93ghz w/ 1.62v. These voltages seem to change the recorded difference between the two programs. TAT will read 38-40c idle, while PC Probe will read 51-52c idle.... Is the cpu's IHS 'taking' the additional heat build up from the voltage increase....or is one of the programs 'off'..? If the 1st were true, it should mean that my W/C'ing system is working wonderfully, and the IHS is 'absorbing' the additional heat... If the 2nd true...then which program to trust.... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Why the increased difference at the high vcore...? And what does that mean?
