He is 100% correct to say that the performance increase from expensive memory and water cooling equipment is in a terrible proportion to its cost.

Now that, I agree with...just the way it is unfortunately. What can you do but wish it cost less...as your buying it. Its a necessary evil....I wouldn't say "Your a n00b becaues you bought that!".....plenty of people want faster memory and a cooler 'loop'...they just cant afford the commercialized prices.

Question:

You said in other posts about NB straps that Asus bumped up the next strap border line from 333MHz to 400MHz. Do you know if any other boards/companies have this, like the 965-DS3 or the Biostar 965 board?

I am not aware of the NBCC value that triggers the strap jump in the DS3 or BioStar. The only way to find out it by testing.

What he was saying is that it is quite foolish to get watercooling or expensive memory. And it is. The price to performance ratio is horrendous and not worth the cost. However, plenty of us have it (me too) because it is worth the enjoyment we get out of it.

$500.00- E6700
$~225.00- current W/C setup
----------------------
$725.00 = E6700 @ 3.8ghz, idle- 29-31c / load- 41-43c

any other CoreDuo's currently sold @ 3.8ghz....? None...

So what you guys are telling me is that $725.00 for 3.8ghz and a 30c temp is 'not worth it'...huh? Seems that running almost 1ghz over the speed of the a X6800 for just over half the cost and @ still having more room to OC is a "bad idea". It looks to me like i'm still 'ahead-of-the-curve' on the
Price/Performance scale.
-------------------------------
*On topic*-> How would one expect to acheive the highest stable OC in combination w/ the best NB strap without some darn-good cooling? Since my P5B-dlx tops its NB performance @ 400mhz, my goal is to have good enough temps to run @ 400FSB x 10 multi to hit 4ghz. Only water or a pelt can help a 6700 reach 4ghz...least that I have seen so far.
Keeping temps on die below 38c @ idle helped me hit 4ghz on 1.61vcore

Watercooling only provided minimal performance increase over say, a Tuniq Tower. However, it costs anywhere from 4-6 times as much. You can get to 3.8Ghz on a Tuniq + E6700.

I never said that water cooling doesn't provide an advantage. It is just a diminishing advantage when compared to price.

I would not run 1.61 Vcore 24/7 on water or air....
