As I'm in the process of competing my first Intel build I found this faq very informative. I think I should now be able to tackle overclocking (an Intel chip) without much (if any) issue at all. Thanks for taking the time to write it, it's much appreciated. +REP to you!

Excellent guide, i never messed with the NB and i thought that lower multiplier would help stability so ill be fiddling with those tonight but this is a really good guide.

just a slight correction here you CAN overclock a dell, clockgen and rivatuner, my cpu is at 2.6 FROM 2.4, and my graphics card is also overclcoked, just putting it out there.

by the way thank you for the guide

the sb doesn't need that much extra voltage. From what I've seen you will be fine if you add 0.1v to the stock settings.

I've never seen any reason to change the SB voltages (there are two; at 1.05V and 1.50V).

Hey I'm new to overclocking and so far I'm enjoying your guides. Don't know if these questions have been posted in this thread but here goes:

DDR is essentially 2 transfers per clock, and DDR2 being 4 transfers per clock. However they still run at DDR clock speeds. So, for DDR running at 400MHz, DDR2-800 should mean 800MT/s and not 800MHz? Unless it's a marketing gimmick where you can "THINK" of the process as effectively doubling clock speeds (when in fact it's really bandwidth).
True/False?

How do you get 0.016? This depends on the FSB/CPU bit?

Therefore, a system with a 266.66Mhz FSB (stock Core 2 Duo) has a FSB bandwidth of:

266.66 x 4 x 8 = 8533.33MB/s

Your memory has a 64bit (8 byte) width and a capability of 2 transfers per clock (DDR).

Therefore, to flood the FSB bandwidth you get:

8533.33MB/s = X Mhz * 2 * 8
8533.33MB/s = X Mhz * 16
533.33Mhz = X

Therefore a memory bus speed of 533.33Mhz or DDR2-1066 will flood the FSB bandwidth.
Firstly, you don't ever want to "flood" your FSB bandwidth with ram right? Ie. Don't you need some available bandwidth for communication between other parts of the NB?
Secondly, I agree that in your calculation a memory bus speed of 533.33MHz is true for DDR. But, for DDR2 you have 4T/s thus the calculation changes too:
8533.33MB/s = X Mhz * 4 * 8
8533.33MB/s = X Mhz * 32
266.67Mhz = X
Hence, DDR2-533 and not the quoted DDR2-1066. Please correct me if this is not true.
