Default Lapping

I've seen it referenced a couple times here so far.
What exactly does lapping refer to?

lapping refers to making your cpu or whatever you may be lapping true, which is a 100% flat and it will increase your ability to release heat by not having any so called hot spots that hold heat in instead of releasing it through your hsf.simply it will decrease your temps, and i recommend doing you hsf also if you do your cpu.heres a linky about it http://www.overclock.net/faqs/15897-...-p4s-a64s.html

from my list i'd say its good...44 and 43 A's seem to sit around 333fsb but lower vcore...anything that high for a cpu that is stock at 200fsb is great...

let me know what your settings and clocks are when you get a good stable set up...

question for overclocking the 4300 and ram

the 4300 is 800 fsb and quad pumped that fsb of 200 mhz.

so if you have the DDR2 800 ram thats 400 up and 400 down.

so does that mean u have like 200 mhz space to work with?
or is the 200mhz x2 which means everything is working at 400 mhz?

basically how do you work with the ram speed when over clocking?

im not sure i understand your question,

but if i read it right then--- the ram has its own multiplier...running stock (200fsb) on with a 4300 and with ddr2-800 would leave your RAM multi at 4x = 800mhz (4x200fsb)....however if you oc your 4300 to 375fsb then your RAM would be at 1500mhz (too high for most ddr2-800)...so you would adjust the RAM multi to 2x 375fsb = 750mhz...now your lower than stock..lol...but that's the small issue with this cpu...and why i don't usually suggest anything but ddr2-800 for the 4300...tho i have seen ddr2-667 run stable at 1000mhz with the 4300....

idk if that helped or confused people even more...lol...hope it helped somehow..

thanks that was good info. i didn't know to adjust the ram. i guess you can adjust the multiplier in the bios. but i haven't seen it, i'll go look. i guess is oC'ing the ram the same as OCing the cpu. can you only adjust the muliplier. what about the voltage. how does adjusting the voltage affect the ram. also do you think u can give me a little info on the timing adjustments. i knoe the lower the timing numbers the better, but how does adjusting the timing affect the system?
