Exclamation Awful CPU temps? E4300

HUGE EDIT! Now has nothing to do with temps...The FULL story is:

One day kbiscu1t decided to build a computer. After completing it, he turned it on! Yay! It boots! Then, he goes into CMOS to check the CPU temp. Uh-oh! 55c idle isn't very good. He thinks "I better ask for some advice on Overclock.net!" He posts a thread on why his temps are so high, and how to lower them. Many tell him to remount. He thinks "Great! No big deal then, just remount and it'll be good to go!". After remounting, he tries to boot. The lights, fans, and HDDs turn on, but the screen isn't showing any sign. "Oh, I probably just need to remount the graphics card!" After remounting, nothing changes. "Ah well, the great people at Overclock.net will know what to do! Wait...the power button isn't turning the computer off like before!"

After many trials and errors, it still doesn't work. He's remounted the cpu fan three times, applyed thermal paste 3 times, and other things. He has taken out the RAM, and didn't get any beeps.

Ok i'm through with the story thing, talking in 3rd person is hard.

Please! Any suggestions? I think I might just DOA the mobo and the CPU.

Suggestions?!!

The BIOS represents 80% of full load, but what are your room temps?

http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...ions-here.html

a section on thermal paste is near the end of the first post..

you could help us out by going to the "USER CP" at the top of this web page, then fill in your system specs as best you can..we can help but need to know what you are using in your system..

MAKE SURE YOU ARE READING YOUR CPU TEMP. NOT YOUR SYSTEM TEMP. your cpu should be the second temp...

Is this your heat sink?

If so, remount your heat sink. On the 4 pins, at the top, you'll see arrows on each plastic piece. When the arrow is pointing in or toward the heat sink, this means it is UNLOCK. When it is facing out, it is LOCK.

What I do is that I set them in LOCK position and then mount it. When you do this, you'll hear the clicks better when you push the pins down.

You may want to consider cutting off the IHS for better contact with the HSF.
