Default E4300 running WAY too hot

My e4300 cores are running 44/45 C IDLE, and like 60-70 load...

...stock

...***?

I used AS5, put a thin strip down the center, as directed, and mounted the heatsink

Did I mount the HS wrong? I can take it off and try again, but the scythe is soo big that it is quite difficult.

Just wanted to see if anyone else had a similar situation. It seems to be quite hot!

try reseating the heatsink. its the best way to start troubleshooting a temp problem

reseat your TIM using the directions on arctic silvers webtise and when your taking the HS off look to make sure the Scythe was making full contact on the AS5. ive heard alot og people complaining about the quality of the finnish of the scythes contact area. check it on a peice of glass and make sure its flat. then check your chip, ive also head of some pretty concave IHS's on 4300's.

fwiw i idle in the mid 30's and dont go over 60 on the cores with 1.48v and 3.285ghz

most likely heatsink not making proper contact, but it wouldnt hurt to rule out other possibilities. is your computer in a tight space, or near a heat source? or what does the inside of the case look like. is there space for decent air flow?

what everyone said is right on...

but i would check your IHS to make sure it is as flat as possible...those 4300's can have some real curve to their IHS...(IHS is the "silver cap" on the cpu itself, it covers your cores and is where the HSF makes contact to your cpu) If its curved it will not provide good heat exchange..

I would agree that you should re-check the mounting of the heatsink. Sometimes the AS5 "markings" left behind might help you decide if it was making good contact. Do the obvious inspection of surrounding components/caps etc as heatsinks are HUGE these days...make sure it's not touching anything.

Lastly, be aware that MANY E4300s run hot. Intel has recently started to install the IHS with thermal grease instead of soldering them (like every other proc, I believe) and you can expect that to cause 10 C or more. Once you've verified your heatsink is on properly, I'd conclude it's the nature of your E4300. Some people get a couple degrees C back by lapping the IHS, but that will void your warranty. Others have removed the IHS completely (that also voids your warranty and is VERY risky). I'd rather throw a few more dollars at the problem and spend less time with the risky and time consuming solutions, so I'm actually going to RMA my E4300 because I want cooler temps than the thermal grease will allow. My E6320 will be here tomorrow, we'll see what the temp diff is.

those guys are bang on,
try unplugging your proc and turning upside down on a table, if it wobbles, its dodgy, do the same for your ninja, they can get really dodgy, how do i know?
i have been there (built a p.c for my auntie) but it is now running an amanda, lol. and try checking your board volts. i have heard some problems with the GA- 965 S3's running too much on volts.

Kind Regards & I hope this helps a little.

only concern is the voltage. My e6300 was at 1.48V and was giving me temps like that. Check the voltage first, and bring it down to around 1.28v-1.30V

well, tried the infinity the other way, and then tried teh stock cooler- all gave similarly crappy results...

i think it must be the proc

(voltage was 1.325V)

I'm gonna RMA it

Should i get another 4300 or is the 6300 gonna work much better?
