na read what he said, see coretemp uses t-junction i think it is and that is the same as tat so that is whats giving the potentially wrong temps

very good find, but please next time of if you want to try again try and get it all in a email so you could paste it over here or maybe record your message so you could write it down, there are peeps here that could desifer alot of the stuff that is over our heads

good job researching this stuff
his email came after our phone call...it only really included info on their utility..then some info on "how to cool" all that was basic knowledge for all of us here...what we talked about on the phone wasn't in the email...

i'll see if i can't email him back and ask if he could email me our talk...if he has the time to...

Also, before today we all heard of the T_case and T_junction...if i remember right i think he said there is not T_junction on the C2Ds instead a TCC...if that is the case that would explain why TAT doesn't read right...IDK..if i had known how much info he would give, i would have recorded the call and transcripted it here...i thought he would just say TAT is correct or TAT is incorrect..lol..

some of what he said i think can be found here and in a link within that post as well..

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1192840

tho i think those guys maybe going to extremes to find their temps..using formulas and all...and they may not be exactly correct either..idk..lol..how many times have i said "idk" today...lol anyone who can help me to KNOW i, and im sure others, would love to be more educated on this!!

Well, I think TAT was always good to me on XP, but now that I'm using Vista it's been a little. . . "female dog" ^_^

As for SpeedFan, it's been right for me as well, although the load temps are always like 6C higher in SpeedFan, but hey, I can handle that.

From what i understand i think if your TCC is 100c you will read accurate from TAT and have the same reading from SpeedFan...If you are TCC 85c you will read 15c lower than TAT...

If while testing you are only a few C's off of TAT, that could be because Speedfan logs faster than TAT does...So you could think the temps are off but TAT just hasn't reported the higher temp yet...

Exclamation I think I have got it

Ok this is starting to make sense to me...and this may be long winded, but its worth the read..

Intel C2D's have 2 different TCC's.. Some are 85c others are 100c...So what that means is 85c or 100c is the max that cpu can go at the T_junction... You can use CoreTemp and the T_junction reading it gives will show only one of the two..TAT was made for 85c TCC's (Pentium M)....So when a 100c TCC shows up it reads it 15c higher...

If you have a 85C cpu, then TAT is most likely correct... If you have a 100c cpu then TAT is 15 too high...

This makes sense to me now... At load with speedfan i hit 50c that is 65c under TAT... However I have a 100c TCC...So if i remove the 15c from TAT i get what Speedfan reads...

Now we are not worried about reading the T_junction anymore... We need the T_case reading instead.. So if i run my cpu at its max T_case of 61.4C, that would leave TAT reading 76.4C... However this is not too high... Mine being a 100c TCC...

My suggestion is this

Run CoreTemp to find your TCC (T_junction)
Find your T_case max (from my first post, second link)
Run speedfan and TAT together to verify what i have said
Keep speedfan below your T_case max

woot

Nice job on the research!! Pentium M is a single core right, strange someone designed the app for a single core mobile chip originally.
Every single monitoring tool I use is within a coupla degrees of each other so I'm not worried.
The alarming thing is not stressing your CPU with TAT while OC'd, me thinks I won't be doing that anymore.

Could you check you T_junction with CoreTemp for me... If your programs are close to each other then you must have an 85C T_junction... Lack of cpu's keep me from testing all of this...

You should use CoreTemp and its main screen will show at the bottom left the T_junction...

Just Look at grunion's screenshot... his coretemp is on the right...
