![]() ![]() WOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! ![]() This thread is supposed to be all about theoretical possibilities regarding how crazy fast this thing is gonna run for us, so feed me some numbers and if they seem to be plausible to other posters I can add the info to this first post... Also, if you are one of the lucky ones with a Q6600 G0 in your possession then go to the sister thread Hey SLACR, G0 higher! ![]() where I hope we can share each other's experience with the chip and we can figure out the best MoBo Vcore temps FSBs and benches for the retail chip! IF YOU DON'T HAVE A MoBo YET THEN GET ONE THAT USES THE Intel P35 AS A NORTH BRIDGE So far it is the best chipset to OC Quads, now as to which board exactly that will largely depend on your particular needs. However the ASUS boards, Abit and Gigabyte boards are all proven to OC B3's well. FSB walls per mobo (B3 & G0, but anything a B3 did a G0 should do too) more info here ABIT IP35 pro ~ 490 ASUS Commando ~ 457 ASUS P5B DELUXE wifi ~ 450 Gigabyte P35C-DS3R ~ 450 EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 ~ 450 ASUS P5K Premium ~ 450 ABIT AB9 QuadGT ~ 444 ASUS P5N32-E SLI ~ 375 Actual attained clocks per MoBo: ASUS P5K: 4.0GHz EVGA 680i (rev. 2): 4.0GHz ASUS P5N32-E SLI: 3.35GHz (limited by 375FSB ceiling) SPECIFICATIONS: Intel specs page for the Q6600 G0 Multiplier: x9 Bus Speed: 1066 MHz L2 Cache: 8MB Thermal Design Power: 95W Voltage: 1.1V - 1.372V Thermal Spec: 71C (not 73.2C?) Stock Speed: 2.40 GHz Documented OC potential: Air: 3.6 + (3.8GHz reached by many! 4.0 benched by many!) Water: 3.8 + Chilled water: 3.8 ++ Phase:4.0 +?! * I am strongly considering picking up a G0 stepping Q6600 and like many others I have a reservation for a guaranteed G0 stepping with Tank Guys. FINAL PRICE $295 - $5 discount with Google Checkout code "5google" + shipping So, in the effort to feel I am worthy of owning one known info and I'll try to sum it up on this first post. It will need some edits. I just want to get a discussion going so I can learn more about the chip in hopes to increase my OC potential, and so I have a better idea of what to expect before I pay: G0 stepping can be recognized by the 06FB CPUID. (The first Q6600 was stepping B3 recognized by06F7) > The Model number also changes from SL9UM for the B3 to SLACR for the G0 > The SLACR part should be on the box at the end of the PROD CODE# = VIOLA! G0 stepping Q6600, should start shipping as soon as August 6th.Quote:
It is slated to require 95 watts down from 110 from the current Q6600. This is usually an indicator of higherOC potential!!! It is also slated to have a higher tCase which means it will be rated for higher temps. In this case 11C higher thanthe B3 stepping tCase of 62.2C giving it a 73.2C rating. (71C on Intel spec sheet) As far as I know there is nobody else that will take the time to figure this out steppings when you are buyingyour CPU other than TankGuys. So if you want one now you might want get a $5 reservation with them or you'll have to wait till the B3 stepping is sold and gone from Newegg's warehouse... Please let me know asap about any mistakes that might have gone over my head and I will edit right away. Specially if you know if the spec voltage will be lowered or if the lower wattage requirement will simply make the chip more stable at a specific given Vcore. Also please help me with recommendations on how this info should be summarized and feed me more so I can add to this short simple post. - As of July 19th Tank Guys had "about 270" pre-orders for Q6600 G0's - - however OCN's Audi is the certified first reservation holder per Tank - - For more info including a detailed list of the order GO HERE - - Good news: the first shipment might be as big as 450 CPUs - Quote:

Also, please check the "detailed invoice" link you receive, it must correspond with the number in that email. Just to make sure it is 100% accurate. And please... start off your post with "#### - YourName", then hit enter a few times so I can see it clearly and C & V (copy and paste) it. Canadian, eh?: Quote:
Australian mate? ...it was reported an Australian site has the Q6600 for pre-order seperate from the other Q6600's which are in stock...so the ones on pre-order must be G0 stepped...? but not guaranteed...? Anywho... ( ::sorry link was not posted:: ) ASUS P5N32-E SLI?: If you have a P5N32-E SLI board then I am sorry to hear that and check this thread out: http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...d-failure.html Note about Tank Guys: This is not an fun process for TankGuys, and they are not charging us a premium for the trouble of guaranteeing us the G0 stepping so please use Google Checkout when paying, it saves them money and that's the least we could do for them. Also you get to enter "5google" for a discount when submitting through Google Checkout! Thank you, USlatin

I am on the fence between the Q6600 and holding out for a native quad...
I can't complain with the 1080p capabilities of my 3.15GHz E6300 even on the 32-bit world... so I can be patient if it will mean I will be able to run a fade to and from severely CC'ed clips displaying a full 23.976fps at fill screen 1:1 pixels on the Gateway with full rez... Personally that's why I am starting this thread... And for that aspect you are one of the main guys I am hoping will contribute... especially based on your experience cutting in FCP. Though I really hope I could come over with my OS HDD and we tried running Vegas on your rig... (if you still had your B3 Q6600) I am also interested on what 3Dmark06 scores might be within the grasp of the G0 Q6600 and the Native Quads...

well my Windows install is about to disappear in favor of Parellels so it won't be a fair comparison. However, if you feel that you can hold out for actual native quad support from intel or Amd then you should, I believe.
