Hey! You might want to add that for MSI boards C1E can be switched of by going to CPU features and hitting the F4 key. And then changing the setting that appears to 'disable'

Which setting is the one that appears? I'm not familiar with MSI...

When pressing F4 on the cpu menu of Advanced Chipset menu on the MSI boards, C1E along with one another option that is slipping my mind will be displayed.
Thought I'd clear that up.

another way to do this is to fold that way your cpu will never be idle

Quote:
For the MSI boards: 1) Boot into the BIOS and look for the "Cell Menu" page. 2) On this page in the BIOS, you should see "D.O.T. Control" and "Intel EIST", these should be set to Disabled. 3) Navigate to the "CPU Feature" menu. (Advanced BIOS Features>CPU Feature) You should see "C1E Support", this should be set to Disabled. *Note: Earlier versions of the BIOS may have this feature hidden, if you do not see it, pressing F4 will reveal it. ~ makkarin/ring_wraith 4) Hit "F10" to save, then "Esc" to exit and restart your machine. 5) Load Windows normally and confirm your processor's FSB and multiplier in CPU-Z. No offense to anyone but I believe this is a more accurate way of describing the process of disabling C1E Support on MSI boards with an American Megatrends, Inc. (AMI) BIOS. ~Ellipsis

Okay, I have some interesting results to share.
500 FSB, 7X multi, 3.5Ghz clock speed (88% overclock) I just enabled C1E and EIST. Idle temps have dropped by around 5-10C, clocks have dropped to 3Ghz (500 x 6) on idle, and voltage has dropped from 1.43 to 1.27 on idle. Benchmarks have not changed. Stability has not changed. Overall feel and response time has not changed. Been using it for about 4 days now
