a better mobo will help you tremendously. A board like the Asus P5K will easily push the E6750 to near 4.0GHz

I came from a 945 overclocked to 4500mhz it was fast but now i got a e6600 clocked at 3.23ghz it screams on just about everything i see speed improvements. Only thing i didnt was 3dmark06 it stayed about the same.

I think you should save the money and buy an e6600 with a p35 mobo and overclock the heck out of it , with a good cooler you should be able to get ~3.6 ghz

E6600?? nay. That's getting old.

The E6750 and basically most E6X50 series clock higher than the E6600, esp. paired with a good P35 board. We're talking 3.8 - 4.0 GHz on air here.

if not a e6750 i would recommend a e6420 atleast. I would have said an e6550 but that multi is low and most nonp35 boards max out at 450< FSB so you wouldnt get as high of an overclock

E6750...I'm extremely happy with the one I have...this beast smokes haha. And i've clocked it to 3.2 GHz from 2.66 GHz and it hasn't seemed to stress one tiny bit with that overclock. I know this beast can go much higher hehe.

For that price range, the Gigabyte P35-DS3R will be better though.

for that price range i think ill get the p5k as the Gigabyte P35-DS3R is £107 and the p5k i can get for £92 (thats going by ebay prices btw with 17.5 % tax dammit ) also i ill get the 1066Mhz PC28500 ram but im unsure as to get the 1gb blocks or the 2gb blocks (the 2gb blocks jumps a lot in price, 1gb x 4 would cost me around £150 ? and 2gb x 2 will cost me > £400 also i think the 1gb blocks of ram will be better for overclocking so i can do 1:1 ratios if i remember rightly ?).

Also i will probably get the E6850 as atm theres only £20 difference depending on who u get it from ill be looking at around £100 to £120 for one of them.

edit i just noticed the new CORSAIR DOMINATOR PC2-9136 1142MHZ @ £230 tho gotta squeeze a few more quid out of somehwere now hehe
