Default Help !! lol intel D9** or E6*50

I have been pondering over this question for some time now as the title says should i go with the D945 (i cant seem to find the D960 or D95* for sale anywhere) or go with the E6850, i am currently running the D945 at 3.8 @ 30 degrees on load with air !! and very stable but im going to build another computer and give this one to me bro but im very confused about the 2 cpu's i know a fair bit about computers but not as much as some of u lot as this is the site i had got all my knowledge for o/c and have been doing so very succesfully for the past 4 years.

my new rig will consist off the new asrock conroe 1333 mobo with 4gb off kingston ram, now i know the asrocks dont overclock too well ill be lucky if i can squeeze 2Ghz out of new cpu but the question is which cpu do i get as intel states the D945 is running on dual core technology but in fact its one core running dual cache's (am i right there ?), and the E6850 is 3Ghx x 2 with 2mb x 2 cache, the rig will be purely for gaming but i dont know whch cpu i will get better performance out off (i dont think i will get that much of a boost with quad cores for gaming) this new technology is really making me spin in cirlces lol someone help me on my path pleeeeze

Even if you have any suggestions other than what i have stated like the E6750 (but with the asrock mobo and not getting much of an o/c i think i will get more benefits from the E6850)

E6850 please. The E6850 will smoke what you have right now. Or even the Q6600 and overclock it will prove even better in games like Supcom and Alan wake, and crysis which are even closer to release now. And you can fold at the same time

Definitely go with the E6850, no D9xx can't compared to it regardless of the clock speed.

But also, don't get an ASROCK board for the E6850, get something like an ASUS or GIGABYTE or BIOSTAR or ABIT with a P35 chipset.......nothing with a VIA chipset.

Why? Because that's be like pairing a D945 with PC-100 and a GeForce 2MX, great combo, isn't it?

Or get an E6750 to afford the P35 chipset based MoBo.

BTW, the E6x50s have Intel's new architecture, so the Netburst CPUs will not be as good.

Definately the E6x50 series! It will run circles around the D9xx series... and fast ones!

The D9xx is dual core. No confusion about that.

However, the architecture is outdated, and the Core 2 Duo outperform it heavily.

To match a stock E6850 (2.66GHz), you probably need to push the D9xx beyond 5GHz.....

Now, if you can afford an E6850, you definately can afford a better motherboard with an E6750.... Why that ASROCK, while you know it isn't that good?

Pentium D is just two CPUs slapped in the same CPU and is based on the netburst architecture i believe.
It's old

Core 2 duo is 2 CPU's on the same die, true dual core and is the new architecture.

Go with the core 2 duo, it's much bettter.

And your temps seem extremely unreasonable. 30C load with a pentium D at 3.8ghz? Those things tend to run very hot i hear, and 30C load is pretty unreasonable unless you have your CPU in the antarctic.

ok ill get the E6850 but i chose the asrock b4 i even contemplated on what cpu to get purely because asrocks are cheap and the first thing to go is the mobo (afaik) so i can replace it fairly easily, ive already paid for it now lol i guess i can get the p35 based mobo and either shelve the asrock or sell it (pretty hard without a credit card tho ),

and as for the temps i guess i got lucky with this cpu but that is the temps well thats what speedfan is telling me anyways the only thing stopping me going for a bigger o/c is the volts and i tend to not wanna paly around with that.

I'd highly recommend the E6750, even with the ASROCK. yeah, it doesn't overclock that well, but you save $120(!). And I yet have to see any application that cannot be handles with a STOCK E6750. The difference between a 2.66GHz E6750 and a 3.0GHz E6850 isn't that much. Both will be more than enough for anything you can throw at it (with some high-end exceptions).

Save the money, and get the E6750. Or, if you insist on spending $300+, you should definately get the Quad Core Q6600.

Yeah, get the E6750. It's like $100 (50 quid) cheaper and it still pwns the Pentium D.
