I am going to pull the fan back off tomorrow and clean and do the thin strip, just for peace of mind, and to eliminate a variable. ( I hope I am not seating the fan wrong, it is a tight fit and getting the screws in are a pain.)

I am running a NZXT case (lexan) that has 3 120mm fans, and a 80 on top. I am going to upgrade the fans soon, and get a controller for them.

Sweet went ahead and pulled off the heatsink, and lapped my chip today. I am now running 45C 43 according to coretemp. It was worth the time. I say if you have the stuff to do it, and are confident with your hands, then do it!
