Default overclock not reading correctly in windows vs. bios

i have a q6600 that i overclocked to 3ghz on a p35c-ds3r board. This overclock was working perfect, staying under 65c using the zalman 9500, and reported correctly in windows system properties and cpu-z to be 3ghz. just today I checked cpu-z and it looks like my system reverted completely back to stock settings, ie. 266mhz fsb and 2.4ghz now. I checked the BIOS and the fsb is still set at 333mhz. What could have gone wrong? I have vista 32, and have installed some simple win updates this week, and i have installed the new beta 163.44 nvidia drivers for my 8800gtx. Only other thing i can think of is that i just today switched vista power configuration to high performance, but I have done no BIOS updating since the overclock. I have no clue what is going on here. Please help

Try this. Put your system under load and see if the reading jumps up. You may have speedstep or something similar enabled in your bios which causes your computer to slow down when it doesn't need all the power.

i noticed the speedstep when i first did the overclock. The multiplier was stepping down but the fsb was still constantly reading 333mhz, now it reads 266mhz. Under load it stays at 266 and the multiplier rises to 9x making clock speed the stock 2.4ghz.
