What's the better CPU "Intel Core 2 Duo E6850" or "Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600" for me to buy. There about the same price.

go with the q6600 for sure e6850 clocks like a champ but the quad is more future proof

I have both and I like the E6850, I have mine running stable @ 4.0 easily 1.55v and I could only get my quad up to 3.3 stable at 1.58v

It depends on what you want to use it for. If you like multi-tasking a lot, then go for the quad core. But if you want raw performance, then a E6850 can beat a Q6600. Also the E6850 can hit a lot higher speeds. A lot of people have successfully Ocd it to 4 Ghz.

However I would recommend the C2Q q6600. This is because in about a year or two, all applications will support multi-threading and this is where 4 cores will come in really handy. Also there is probably no game on the market which will require anything more than an OCd q6600. Presuming you want to OC it.

If you do decide on the q6600, make sure you get a g0 stepping one, as they are relatively cooler and OC much better,

And I would also look at the E6750. Would save you some good money And can perform on par with the E6850 when overclocked.

Mainly, multi-tabling poker with table overlay and poker tracker, with music running the background etc, also some gaming. what does "C2Q" mean in "C2Q q6600"? Sorry, I'm a big newbie.

It means "Core 2 Quad".

If that is the main purpose go with the E6750. More than enough power to handle poker, music, and light/heavy gaming.

You'll save money, as Chozart said, with the E6750 versus the E6850.

Core 2 Quad.

Core 2 series - C2D = Core 2 Duo, C2Q - Core 2 Quad.

The E6750 will be a better buy. Overclock it and you can get speeds just like the E6850. It seems like you don't need a quad so save some money

Generally speaking though, most people opts for the Q6600, since that pretty much cost the same as the E6850.

And the Q6600 overclocked would match the E6850. The E6850 @ 3.85ghz is a bit slower than the Q6600 at 3.60ghz. Despite the advantage in clock speed, the extra cores speak for themselves.
