Finally I got a chance to review the E2180. It is quite impressive. The result speaks itself. With the $85 processor and $80 mobo (NewEgg MIR), can OC 90% of stock (you may go higher but make sure you have good cooler), what more I can say.
System Specs. (Budget rig is my key theme) Intel E2180. Abit IP35-E with BIOS 0405 G.Skill 2G DDR2-6400. WD SE16- 400G. ATI X300 (Will use 8600GT when I figure out the max fsb). AC Pro 7 & AS5. Antec 900 case. By changing the fsb from 200 to 320, I have 3.2G. By changing the fsb from 320 to 340, setting CPU voltage to 1.425v, I have 3.4G. http://img103.imageshack.us/my.php?i...218034gnj5.jpg 3.6G? Change the ram 1:1, set the ram timing to 5-5-5-15, sub timing to Auto, change CPU voltage to 1.495v, add 0.1v to MCH, add 0.1v to RAM voltage. It has no problem to run 2 hours Ortho until I decide to shut it down and try 3.8G http://img103.imageshack.us/my.php?i...218036gfq4.jpg How about 3.8G? Change CPU voltage to 1.525v, add 0.1v to MCH,add 0.1v to RAM voltage. I didn’t run Ortho because I don’t think my poor cooler is able to handle this. http://img174.imageshack.us/my.php?i...218038gyl0.jpg The temperature can’t be that low. Before I know the correct temperature, I won’t try the 4.0G. I think I should start to invest a high-end cooler. Well, I feel very happy so far and will do some benchmark tests once things settle down. Notes: For the AC Pro 7 users, you may need to pick different mobo because Abit's NB blocks the cooler and I have to cut the bottom fins about 0.2cm in order to fit in. The Abit ip35-e mobo’s design is really for these cases with the PSU at the top but not at the bottom. My 24 pins cable is barely long enough to the power connector. The 8 pins 12v cable has to cross the mobo all ways to other side. Overall, it is a wonderful mobo. It is slightly better than my DS3L. In short, while other expensive processors are struggling to reach 3.4G and above, E2180 and Abit IP35-E gets the job done. It is clearly a great combo for budget rig IMO

You should but I don't know my temp is correct or not. At 3.8G, I don't think temp is 38c or 39c that low. These is something I need to figure out when time is permited.

1) What do you mean by that it is slightly better? Better features, better build quality, etc.?
__________________2) Have you tried the E2180 in your DS3L? I ask because I am planning on getting this chip and a DS3R next week, and was wondering if there were any problems with the combination. Or if their is a better board to get (that won't break the bank).

Yes. I did. 'Slight better' is referring to BIOS. In DS3L, I had to change this change that to make it stable at 3.6G. I do know DS3L got very good review and this could be just my mobo and ram only. So, go for DS3R if you like it.
