200 is pretty rough. Don't want to cut so deep that it takes you years to smooth back out with 600.
Shouldn't hurt though if you've got the time to clean it up after flattening it out. Good luck.

it needs to be rough to quickly remove the nickel. then the switch to a higher grit to facilitate the flattening and then very high grit for polishing/evening out. Works like a charm

A question though. My E6750 also unfortunately has the non flat IHS. If you lap it to be totally flat, wont that make the CPU "shorter" and less pressure is applied to it by the heatsink? Is there a way to make sure the same or more pressure gets applied to the cpu after it is lapped?

Theoretically it would, however if what's left of the IHS is still above the bracket holding the processor in place, then it should not matter.
