Red face Brand new! First build, first OC - success - couple of questions

Hey all!

First, I want to thank all of you - this forum was incredibly helpful with my first project.

I recently built my first computer (see specs below), and then yesterday overclocked it - e6550 to 3.2 GHz.

Now, my question is about how hot (or not) it's running. I'm basically confused about one of the SpeedFan readings.

First think you should know - right now, the room the comp in is hot. I have no freaking AC, in Los Angeles :P

So in SpeedFan, the Core 0 and Core 1 temps are fine (though 15 degrees off, as I've read will happen...), but the "Core" temp looks super hot. In Core Temp, the readings look good from what I know. What do you guys think?

Thanks!

P.S. - this is after running Prime95 for 18 hours to test stability.

First, Idle:

Second, Loaded:

Nice OC, but aren't those temps a little high considering the vcore and your Big Typhoon? Try give it a reseat.

I agree with Gigabyte Reseat . What Thermal compound are you using. You should be around 50-52c with that voltage

Very nice OC man! And though your temps are great as it is , you should be able to take them lower, as mentioned above. What your SuperPI time?

Temp2 is probably the reading you want to look at.. Looks good btw.. The CORE reading can't be right.. It got cooler when you loaded it.. Run the Gigabyte tool and verify its CPU reading with speedfans Temp2 reading..

Edit: Core1/2 readings aren't reading right for some of these newer C2D's (xx20's and xx50's).. This is why I suggested the Gigabyte tool.. Everest is another good tool to use..

Use PCMark05 and open up EasyTune5 and check the temps. See what they get up to full load.

Edit: forgot to mention...when I was doing this last night, and my room had cooled down, my full load temps were actually between 50-52 deg.

Awesome, thanks for all the replies, and so quickly!

To answer some questions:

I tried really hard to give the big Typhoon a good seat, it looks flat against the CPU, but I may give it another go.

I'm using Arctic Silver Ceramique Thermal Compound.

Nasgul, I'll try the PCMark05 jazz and post my results.

ringwraith (I'm noticing a name pattern...)....what is SuperPI?

SuperPI is a benchmark that times how long it takes your system to calculate a certain number of digits in the number Pi. BTW, CoreTemp .95.4 will display accurate temperatures for E6X50 processors.

Thanks, swiftshinobi - I got SuperPi - how many digits do I want to use for the test?
