Sitting pretty at 3.0ghz and will test fully tonight and post some screenies. I may be able to get to 3.2 or 3.4 but my cooling will most likely hold me back.

After 10 minutes in Orthos my temps leveled out at 53 degrees and no errors.

*sigh

I can get to 2.7 with only one Vcore increase. Anything over that and I have to really crank it up. Anyone know if I just got a so/so chip or if maybe I'm just missing something?

Post in the "E2180 budget build Thread"....that might get a little more attention.

What is your vcore now...i turned mine up a 4 or 5 notches and it isn't even to 1.4v. anything under 1.4v is ultra fine if you have good cooling(tuniq, zalman, etc.)

OK, so I've was pissed about hitting my wall at 3.1Ghz.

A friend told me his Q6600 had FSBs that just would not post and told me to just try jumping well over 3.2 and see what happens. So I set it to 3.4 and set Vcore to 1.48 just to give plenty of headroom.

IT POSTS! I'm running OCCT with only 51c. Surprised to see that with 1.48.

All those who thought the newer versions have early walls just try jumping over those walls and see what you get. This chip would not even post on 3.2Ghz with 1.5 vcore.

I'll let you guys know how high I can get later tonight. I can see I'm going to be up a while tonight.

typically it's the motherboard that has the FSB holes and not the chip. I would not have expected the results you got from your test...but CONGRATULATIONS.

Ruh roh!

After a few runs with OCCT, which faulted within the first minute and Orthos, which faulted in the first hour I stopped for the night with a vcore of 1.4 (read as 1.404 in CPUZ and 1.344 with vdroop during testing) and a northbridge voltage of 1.393.

It looks like 3Ghz is stable during gaming and normal use but not OCN stable and that just isn't good enough.

It could be a memory issue but I ran MemTest overnight without any errors when I first had these timings and voltage dialed in so I don't believe that's the case. I think tonight I'll run OCCT's memory test since this thing seems to be a real monster on your hardware.

Any suggestions?

Keep in mind that I'm not prepared to take the northbridge up to the next voltage, which is 1.5+ because I don't have active cooling at the moment. I may be able to put the vcore up a bit more but it seems that I shouldn't have to by comparison.

One thing I'm curious about though is the batch. If I can get 3ghz stable without going overboard on voltages and such I'll reseat the heatsink and grab that number because it seems that one series overclocks better than the other (Q series > L series I beleive).

***EDIT***
I may also try loosening my memory timings to 5-5-5-15 but again I don't think I'll have to. We'll see though.

I believe "L" series batch o/c better. That's what I have at the moment and I have only upped the voltage on NB 0.1v and haven't gotten close to 1.4 on the core yet. and I'm at 3.15 rock stable.

I can't remember what I needed for 2.8 and 2.9, but for 3GHz it's 1.51875 BIOS, 1.488 idle actual on cpu-z, and 1.456 load. My cooler is so-so, it's a cooler master hyper tx2, which is a 3 heatpip tower config, with a 92mm fan on it. My temps at this vcore are 30 idle / 65 load with a ~22 ambient. I have a smidge more Vcore I could add to get a little higher o/c, but I think my temps would leave my comfort zone and I'd highly doubt stability anyway. Thanks for asking!

Linskingdom, pm replied, thanks!
