Generally the higher the Multi the better options you will have with Mobo/Memory setups... in this case the extra .5 will be worth it ... more retail E8500 here

To buy in the UK now:
E8200
They had the E8400 in stock but now sold out. Back in on Monday as well as the E8500. They are in stock ready to go and not pre-order, I emailed the stock manager and he confirmed price and stock levels are correct

Thanks for this thread. Great information, REP+ of course!

I'm in line at Tank Guys for a Q9450. To me, 0.5 multi is insufficient to justify the difference, 8x notwithstanding. I expect a clean 3.6 at 450 and hope for 3.76 at 470!

We will see if X38 was worth castrating any hope for SLI!

I think I'll be going with Wolfdale since I have a 680i SLI board which apparently doesn't support Yorkfield.

Check the Asus and Evga site for the 680i latest. They are working on the updated BIOS that may work with 45nm Qual-core. I can update the list because they don't have a formal announcement.

Thanks for the info, hopefully someone gets something out to support the 45nm quads on those boards.
