This thread is dedicated to Penryn 45 nm processors. More details will follow as time is permitted.
I am not quite sure that I am able to take on this subject but my goal is to gather Penryn 45nm processors information as I can and put them in simple term. With your help, I hope that I can pull it off. kaxx - What's the best batch code of E8400's? LuckyX2 also has a 45nm OC thread. GigaByte324 also has a Intel Core 2 Quad (45nm) Information Thread. Introduction Penryn families of processors, the new generation processors are based on current Intel Intel Core microarchitecture and 45nm Hi-k process technology. With the hafnium-based Hi-K metal gate transistor design, Penryn processors are able to operate much cooler, more energy-efficient and achieve at higher performance. ![]() Owners List This is a list of current Penryn owners. If you would like to share the your information, which I encourage you do this, please provide the following information - Owner name, Processor Name, Stock/OC Clock Speed,Motherboard, Memory, GPU , 3Dmark06 score, SuperPI and OS (operation system). Please feel free to let me know if you want to change your information. Information is collected from the screenshot that members provided. Penryn has many enhancements over 65nm processors. Here are some highlights.
Specs and Price This is the most recent list of Penryn family of processors. The chart looks scrabble a bit. I will streamline it as time permits and update the list as data available. Penryn product line crosses desktop, laptop and Server/workstation. Penryn is the family code name. Inside Penryn family, each type of processors has its own code name. The socket type of desktop is LGA775, server/workstation is LGA771 and mobile is Socket P. ![]() Motherboard and Memory Intel's X48, X38, P35, and G33 chipsets officially support Penryn processors. The new coming P45 and G35 also support Penryn processors. Some vendors are current testing and trying to confirm P965 and P975X chipset to see if they support Penryn processors with updated BIOS. On the other hand, both new nForce 790i and 780i fully support Penryn processrots but 680i and 650i only supports dual core Penryn. We should know more as Jan, 2008 approaches. As the new chipset boards continue to roll out, the DDR3 ram will become standard eventually. However, as of today, the price of DDR3 is ridiculously high and doesn’t offer any significant performance boost over DDR2 so DDR2 won’t be gone soon. ![]() Penryn Motherboard list This is a list of current motherboards that support Penryn. Some well-known motherboards may support but I won’t add them in until vendors formally announce. I will add more motherboards and populate contents as time is permitted. Please verify the latest motherboard information in vendor website before you order Penryn processor or motherboards ![]() Benchmarks I update Penryn processors benchmark once we know more. I like the benchmark from bit-tech because it covers all areas such as 3D gaming, PC mark and 3D rendering as well as power consumption. Most importantly, it includes latest c2cd and AMD X2 processors.

Sorry, but in the time it took you to post this thread, Penryn is now obsolete. We will be moving our discussions to the 32nm chips.

Speaking of 32nm... my friend works for supply within Intel and he told me that they actually have 32nm working. Maybe this is old, but he was quite excited about it.

That's why I wrote in the first line. This may not be a good idea to take on this subject. Alright, see if I can get it done next 2 weeks.

Yes, I have read that in a few magazines. Personally, I'm waiting until the nanometers get into the negative numbers before I upgrade. That should be no more than a year or so.
