When I first received my E4400 from Stalliontek about a month ago I sent them an emailing concerning the fact that this "OEM" chip was in fact an ES (I haven't even gotten to use the chip yet... not until I can get a working motherboard!). I just now got a response for them, and it is slightly amusing.

Quote:
Dear Valued Customer,

ES processors are in fact superior to normal CPUS in that they can handle more stress. (since they're designed to be tested under high stress levels). As follows is a link at the intel website discussing ES CPUs. http://www.intel.com/support/process.../cs-001616.htm

We request that you try out the CPU and if you are not satisfied with its performance you can send it back and we will give you a full refund.

Sincerely,
Returns Department
www.Stalliontek.com
I like that they say they are superior chips, but in the link they supplied it is clearly stated that said chips can incur damage when used... oh well. I will judge when I actually get to use it!

Tom

Well, I guess I ought to post my Q6600 ES overclocks.

These are what I have so far, and were both done within 5 mins of the cpu being installed.

3.4ghz, 12X multi 284fsb http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=356098 - 1.45 Vcore

2.66ghz, 10X multi 266fsb http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=356056 - 1.40 Vcore

The higher the multi I have, the lower the Vcore It needs to be stable.

More overclocking and stress testing to come this week.

Wow, I've never actually seen a Q6600 with a multiplier greater than 9x; they're usually 6x-9x...

Rare chip!

I'm betting that a serious bencher would pay ~$300.00 for it, depending on the overclocks.

Then again, it's pretty much a collector's CPU, so it could be worth more depending on the person.

I think it would be pretty rare, but not impossible.
