I was perusing around looking for people with my E8400 week, and I found this post on [H]ard.
I'm posting this to tell you to be careful when overclocking, don't go liberal on the voltages, and stay keen to what's going on with your system. Apparently when you start going from around 1.38-1.45v, the chips seem to have some degradation problems, as in you'll start having to pump more voltage into the cpu to get it to stay stable at the same settings. some guys on XS say it happens over a week's time period. Again, be careful, and hope this doesn't happen to you, I'm crossing my fingers too.

I've been aware of these reports for awhile, apparently numerous processors are burning up. Keep it below 1.45vc max, safer under 1.4vc.

Hmm, this doesn't bode well for us water coolers. I was ready to get this CPU, but I may get a quad instead.

I have noticed alot of the people that are having the problems (not all) have pumped in over 1.6v on air. And then try and use ~1.45v 24/7 on air. Seems like they're asking for it
. I would try and stay under 1.35v for 24/7 use on air.just my opinion..

Hmmm this is worrying, i was thinking about getting one of these too (O_O), also if it only takes a week to degrade a overclocked one.. could a default stock one die early too? (months)

I dunno, just keep watching this stuff as people own them longer, it's a little early to say it's a definite set in stone fact that your chip will die. I'm just posting this to tell everyone to keep up with this and don't get careless, because these things are really sensitive.

This is exactly what Intel told us a couple months ago, 45nm means lower temps, but it also means that due to the smaller architecture, it breaks easily especially due to the fact that overclocking accelerates the migration of electrons, and the smaller the architecture gets, and more chances you have of breaking it when tempering with voltages.

I thought this would have gone without saying. The smaller the manufacturing process, the less tolerant to voltage increases.

It'll most likely apply to the upcoming 45nm quads to an even higher degree !
They also make more heat within the cpu housing.
