Hey all cool note to share for quads. To make the most of power crunching programs and to keep your core heat down, limit the affinity for your 4 cores. Since I fold on a quad I reduced the FaHCore program to run on Cores 0 and 1 while running all other major programs off of 2 and 3. It really reduced my heat and the folding proces is MUCH faster. Check it out.

You can set the affinity by going to task manager (ctl-alt-del)>Processes and finding the program you want to set the affinity for (if you can't find it go to Applications on the task manager right click on the program you want to find under processes and select "Go To Process") right click on it and select "Set Affinity". Check the cores you want the program to use and hit ok. Your Done!! Check your temps on your cores.

Just thought you might want to know...

Thanks guys for the feedback.

Yep resigned to putting another drive in the rig, but not too bad only £10.00 over here for a basic IDE DVD-ROM - I will pick one up during the week.

Hope that should fix the 2.7GHz threshold.

I've had it with trying to overclock my Q6600 on this board!

I'm using BIOS version 0608 as recommended on here (anything else and the computer just hangs on the Asus splashscreen), and it will boot up using 1333 QDR/667 DDR but when running 3DMark06 (or games) my computer just reboots. Cant clock it to more then 2.6Ghz!!!! Tried with different voltages and its still the same - computer reboots. Temps seem ok, ranges from high 30s to high 40s. Just dont know what else to try, beside putting Motherboard on ebay

Leave the other settings on auto except for the FSB, the mem m and your timings. Make sure you manually put in the right timings on your memory.

Hope that helps,

Q

Yep, done that m8, still reboots. My settings are:
FSB (QDR) 1333
MEM (DDR) 667
Mem Timings 4-4-4-12 2T

It's a nice board just a swine to overclock with the quad

My guess, get rid of the sound card. Then try it.

Tried that this morning MrQ, still reboots, maybe I've just got a board that doesnt want to be Oc'd with a Q6600, lol.

Left all other settings on auto first and then tried tweaking the Voltages by small amounts but that didn't make any difference either.

That will teach me to do more indepth research into buying a Motherboard checked out 7 or 8 reviews and all said it was a good Overclocking board, but not one of them had tried it with a Q6600, it was only when I was having problems OC'ing that I discovered most people have problems with this combination. Ah well

Yep thanx to diddler for unlocking the secret of this board!! I am glad you were able to get it. It seems 1 in 9 are unable to achieve the 3ghz overclock. Almost 90% workable for everybody.
