Just wondering, in terms of heat and reliability, is overclocking a Q6600 on a P5N-E to only 2.65 or so ghz any different than doing the same settings on a better quality motherboard? Is there any point in upgrading your motherboard if you don't want to risk stressing your CPU?

My Q6600 was cool up to 3.0 on the P5N-E. I know people have gotten farther with the latest BIOS (I managed 3.45 on 1301) but I feel more stable with my new board.

If your goals don't surpass 3.0, I would say the P5N-E is fine. I upgraded to my 780i FTW for the PCI-E 16x 2.0, faster RAM compatibility, and 8 phase power. My Q6600 is currently happy at 3.2ghz @ 1600mhz FSB (8x multiplier) and 1.35v vcore.

It's all in where your goals lie. The P5N-E kept me happy for well over a year.

There is no difference on wich board you OC you Q6600 as long as you keep voltages and temps low. I had my Q6600 at 3ghz for a year, got it up to 3.4ghz now. this new bios is very stable.

Hi, what setting did you have to do to get to 3.4? Also, what temps did you get when you do a stress test or running normally?

Thanks

Finally had time to try to oc to 3.4. It worked but I had to increase thevcore temp because I keep getting a bsd. So far it has worked but my temps are around 55. I have a zalman heatsink already installed. How else can I lower my temps?

After a few tests when ever I play COD 5 or try to update my windows experience score I get bsd. Everything works fine as long I don't put a strain on the graphics or go over 58 c. I dropped my multiplier down to 8 and it works but it is only running at 3.0.

Any suggestion on how to get it to run with all 9 multipliers and lower the temps?
