Try not to use a stress program, as more likely to create a gradient and get incorrect result. At idle, you wont have more than 1C gradient. Which is why you may have to remove heatsink, but possibly just turning fan off would do trick. Im on water, so cant test that one myself...water warms to slow, so I have to remove block.

While folding, CoreTemp reports 55c, while RealTemp reports 40c. I touched the copper block on the Tuniq, right by the processor, and it's barely warm. It feels very cool and I could hold my fingers on there all day. I think I may just trust RealTemp...

At load it will always say they are stuck. Did you try in idle?

Update: I posted a link to this thread on XS and the developer of RealTemp got back to me. Here is what he said:

Quote:
Originally Posted by unclewebb @ XS

The L2 E4300 uses the same TCase temp rating as the other B2 stepping Conroe processors from that era. The B2 E6300, E6400, E6600 and E6700 are all TjMax=85C. It makes no sense that the E4300 would be significantly different.

CoreTemp set TjMax to 100C for the L2 E4300 and other L2 processors after it came out and people were getting below ambient idle temperatures. Raising TjMax for these processors was a mistake. The programmer of CoreTemp did not take into account the problems with the DTS reporting idle temperatures which effects all core processors. Have a good read of post#1.

If I can find an L2 processor locally tomorrow I might buy one and try to prove this once and for all.

Setting TjMax=85C and using a ++ idle temp correction factor will get you the most accurate temps for your L2 and will cure the below ambient readings that well cooled L2 processors report.

Edit: I noticed during testing that the PROCHOT# history bit first got set when DTS=2.

To tell your actual temps use this handy formula

-Take reading from CoreTemp, take reading and subtract 11 degrees

-Take reading from Speedfan, now add 15 degrees

-Take reading from Everest and add 5 degrees, subtract 3 degrees, and divide by 2

-Take the combined age of Luke Skywalker and Captain Picard then divide those by 3

-Take the last four numbers of your Social Security Number and subtract 1000

-Now divide this number by 11 and now you have your actual temperature!
