I've heard conflicting answers about that also...
People say that it can be different for each processor.

Well I have an L2 stepping, so that means RealTemp is wrong by reading the TJmax at 85?
Edit: Can others download both programs and test?

and also
SpeedFan 4.33 will require +15c Core Offsets for CPU`s that are Tjunction Max 100c or 105c, which includes B3, C0, C1, G0, L2 and M1 Steppings

Allendales that are the L2 revision have an 85C Tjuction. They are the E4300, the older E4400,and the Early E2140 and E2160. Allendales that are the M0 revision have a Tjunction of 100C, they are the newer E4400, all E4500s, newer E2140 and 2160s, and all E2180s and above. For clarifiation, please review the Intel CPU Specs: Compare the Allendale (L2 and M0) Intel® Core™2 Duo Desktop Processor Compare the (L2 and M0) Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core Desktop Processor The key is their max temps.. As you can see from this screenshot, it can be quite confusing as to what Tjunction is being used. I know that CoreTemp has gone back and fourth with the Tjunction on the L2 and M0 revisions: Source
