well after reading all of this my enthusiasm for temp reading software is just about dead........

10 bucks at frozen cpu. The only problem with a temp probe is that they can (obviously) only be placed on the IHS, which is a lower temperature than the core.

I like real temp better. It says im loading and idling 5-6C cooler than Core Temp

If you undervolt, underclock your cpu, temp at IHS should be within 1C of core temps. See post 57 and read links.

Estimating IHS from a diode abutting or underneath the cpu socket, that needs to be calibrated, can be done using internal case ambients at stock settings and idle, and then hoping your bios makes it scale correctly, and then hoping it does not lose its contact or suffer to much from electrical/software interpretation error.
