I wonder if Core 2 desktop CPUs don't even have a Tj max at all, and the temps are raw from the DTS.. I am going to do this soon with my E4500 using several monitoring programs.

You can't know if you are truly idling below the ambient unless you get a temp probe, and a really accurate one. ![]() Everything messes up another thing. The only way this could be tested is with a surface temperature monitor (they're expensive).

Just came up with another thermal testing idea from this thread, a different one from those done so far, in 1hr (probably more) I shall have results, as I am doing some work on my E4500 as I type this from the Pentium 630 rig.

This is what Intel says about the Mobile Core2Duo chips:
Section 5.1.3 http://download.intel.com/design/mob...s/31674505.pdf "Regardless of enabling the automatic or on-demand modes, in the event of a catastrophic cooling failure, the processor will automatically shut down when the silicon has reached a temperature of approximately 125°C." I think the last screen shot must have been very close to thermal shut down. For the Desktop Core processors there is nothing written in stone in the Intel docs. I might have to go buy one of these cheapy processors tomorrow to do some proper testing with my IR thermometer. |
