I just removed my IHS off of my phenom 940BE a couple hours ago and now I am testing, it's soldered mixed in with glue.

I just came across this thread, and I'm intrigued. I'm using an E7400, which isn't soldered. I didn't see this answered in the parts of the thread I read, but is this only recommended if one is using a CPU cooler with a solid base? I'm using a HDT cooler, and it seems I wouldn't get contact with 2 of my heatpipes. Am I right?

Same here, I have the E7200 and a Xigmatek HDT-S1283 (bought the crossbow bolt through kit) and I was wondering if the Heatpipe Direct Touch ( http://www.legitreviews.com/images/r...-s1283_011.jpg ) would only bring a negative effect to the cooling if you remove the IHS.
Is it better to just lap the IHS for this cooler or will the IHS removal still give me much better temps? If anyone could shed some light on this, that'd be awesome

I have a question, though it may seem strange - has anyone ever taken a non-soldered IHS off, and then soldered it onto their CPU to improve the heat transfer to the IHS?

Temps without the IHS are lower without a soldered thing onto it.
No reason to mess with it.

I tried to do that, but I couldn't find any solder that didn't have a melting temp of over 200c and it also hardened instantly.. also updating CPU list.
