3. Put the CPU Cooler on top and start the machine, or do I put the metal "thing" back on?

Is that the way its done?
You want to clean all the black poo off the die.

As far as putting the IHS back....well, if you mod your heatsink to touch the die you can keep it off. If not, put it back on. I used Elmer's glue to hold it on.

This. Clean off the garbage thermal paste Intel used, when I remounted the IHS on the E4500 using AS5 I still had better temps and a higher overclock then before the IHS was ever removed.

2 month later, a small update to list. Added Lynnfield i5 and i7's. If anyone has info about the newer AMD's IHS let me know.

Everything has been put togather, the problem regarding that the cooling didn't fit was because I hadn't removed the thing that holds the CPU.

But now the comp. doesnt boot! What could be the problem? When I press the button, all fans start exept for the GPU. Than after 3-5sek they power down and the board power it self up again, and repeat.

I had the same issue when I delidded my 3800+ Venice. I was almost in TEARS. took it all apart and put it all back together a few times. I got no video every time. I let it sit over night. Hit the power button when I got up and boom. All was well. Maybe I was lucky? Try double checking the contact between your HS and your CPU die. Also clear your cmos ETC. Here's a pic of my 3800+ for nostalgia.

I'll give that a shot and pray that you weren't lucky, thus higher chances that its a common thing to work the day after.

Still, is there any chance that this is occoring because I plugged something worng? Like Hdd led, power sw ect..

Remove your cooler and make sure your paste is getting spread out from preasure from the heatsink. The screws on most sinks are not made to screw down that far. might need to mod your sink to get it tight enough if you haven't blown your chip yet. I killed an e2180 doing this. My Nirvana didn't screw down far enough and the proc was dead in less then 2 secs.

If you can't get the sink modded, try using some elmers glue around the edges of the proc to hold the IHS back on and replace the TIM under your IHS with some better stuff then Intel's and try to boot again. if it's a no post then you've likely killed it already.

I'm crossing my fingers for ya.
