Nice job, they both looked like they use TIM correct? How much of a temp drop did you see?

Well I took the plunge! I can confirm that the Socket 939 A64 3800+ Venice is not soldered. It was easier than I thought! Here's a pic:

I'll take new temp readings after I get some new TIM. I had to use some 2 year old Ceramique for the time being. I also plan to lap my TDX soon. My temps before IHS removal with AS5 where mid 30's Idle and mid 40's Load. According to Everest that is.

I have a M0 E2180, would the IHS be soldered to the die?

I'm getting some of the thermalright Socket 775 Screw kit things also, so that will let my CPU get better contact once I have gotten rid of the IHS.

@Spart Nice job and thanks for the verification List updated.

@Brutuz E2180 is on the list for not having a soldered IHS and is also verified. Let us know the results of temps and extra overclocking after you remove it.

Just so I know, if mine is soldered, and I do the steps for a unsoldered CPU, it won't damage it, right?

And once I either get the kit, or make my case have holes instead, I'll do it, since I can get my Athlon XP rig up and running again if it breaks..

You can do the unsoldered CPU steps but the most you will get is completely seperating the adheasive between the IHS and PCB but the IHS will not move (if done to a soldered CPU). It will only get damaged if you apply pressure in attempt to force it off without properly heating it up. This is only the case with a soldered CPU. Yours should just fall off from gravity.

Does anyone know if the IHS on the E8400 Wolfdale is soldered? I am guessing it is but I would like to know.

Also I can hit 4.2ghz @ 1.35 volts and my temps are 55C @ full load on water. How much better will it be?

I heard mixed results for stock cooler without IHS, most said it made contact with the die but there was almost no improvement due to the stock cooler's ability to remove heat. Now that the heat is concentrated on a small area the stock cooler won't have much headroom in terms with copeing with removing more concentrated heat. In my opinion it should fit fine but difference will be minimal untill aftermarket cooler is used.
